Paul Matty Retiring - Business/Property For Sale

PostPost by: elanfan1 » Thu Oct 02, 2014 2:40 pm

Well - I've just come off the phone with Paul Matty and I'm quite shocked to to say that he has decided to retire and for that reason the business/property etc is up for sale!

I told Paul that I felt the Lotus Community would be very sad to hear his news particularly because he is known to be such an honourable trader and very much respected. I hoped that anyone taking on the business would try to continue in the same vein.

So then, anyone with deep pockets fancy taking on a specialist Lotus delearship - Paul did say he would be willing to work with someone over the financial elements (which are considerable considering the position of the property) - not that I suppose it has to stay in the same location??

If anyone (in my view - with integrity) is interested perhaps they could give Paul a ring ( this is just me saying this bit - but I would expect that he could get inundated with calls following this post to discuss his retirment can I suggest you hold back a bit as he still presently has a business to run).

It had to happen sometime i guess, but it will a sad day when Paul Matty is no longer in business.
I completely agree with the phrase ' honest trader", in fact it is an understatement.
I have genuinely never wanted to deal with any other Lotus dealer since finding / using Paul Matty.

Honesty and integrity as well as transparency are rare things in any business let alone the world of high value classic cars and spares.

I like my Lotus cars as a hobby, so I won't be asking to take over, the world of knobs, knockers and door latches is enough excitement for me..... you can all sigh with relief

I was there last week & had a good chat with Roy etc... Paul was off after the hill climb for the rest of the week.

He's got quite a responsibility there with about 10 guys... The workshop is booked up for a couple of months so it is a viable business. Let's hope there is a buyer with some deep pockets sympathetic to classic lotii. There can't be too many people interested in acquiring a business like this...

OMG as they say. There was me planning to spend more time frequenting the spares counter there after I retire and he's beaten me to it.

One of the very few businesses in the car world I've felt comfortable dealing with. Very much respected.

Helped me out many times over the last 25 years or so - a pleasure to deal with & spend money on both parts & services. Very friendly, helpful with advice, nothing has ever been too much trouble, & the standard of any work done has always been excellent.

Let's hope that the new owner will continue in the same manner.

That link is sort of generic and doesn't lead to an appropriate place, without knowing what you put in the search parameters.

Are we to assume then that Paul Matty's business is to permanently close? Isn't anyone going to continue it? Disaster for Lotus owners in the UK. I have found them easily the most helpful and well stocked of the spares outlets. :(

Mike,
I think that the premises/land is not owned by the business (Paul Matty Sportscars Ltd), I ran a credit report just now and the company total net worth is less than half the amount being asked for the property (offers above ?1.75 million), it's most likely the personal property of Paul.

Note that this is a prime residential area https://www.google.com/maps/@52.3562126,-2.0454037,3a,75y,77.68h,86.3t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1s5aMLIOuJpmC5cUeOfRWWTg!2e0!6m1!1e1

The business itself has a very healthy balance sheet and it's unlikely that it will be closed down, more likely moved to another premises under new management (perhaps a management buyout).

I hope he is just testing the water and keeping all options open.
I was also hoping someone would take over the business.

Someone else will take over the Business, there is far too much "Good Will" for it to just stop trading, especially when you consider that the only other 100% Dedicated UK Specialist must also be at the stage in "Her" life where thoughts of slowing down are getting close !!

Don't panic people.

I was at Miles Wilkins 2 weeks ago and he's not going anywhere. He wants to survive longer than Lotus Cars.........
