I emailed Malcolm Ricketts:
Hello Malcolm and Jill,

In view of the tragic death of Denis Welch, I thought it best to check with you on whether or not you are still having your open evening next Wednesday.

Regards
Bill Williams
Current Owner of OGU108E Elan.

And Malcolm says the Open Evening will still go on:

Hi Bill -
after much discussion, Jill and I decided that the Workshop evening would go ahead. We are sure it would be what Denis wanted, and also it would have been difficult to let all know if we cancelled. Look forward to seeing you.
Malcolm

I will almost certainly go, is anyone else coming?

An enjoyable evening and nice to see faces old and new.

The turn out was surprisingly lower than last year, but lot's of interesting cars there as well as interesting people.

Thanks for the update Bill. I was very tempted to come along but it is a bit of a trek for me (almost do'able) but I couldn't make it I am afraid. What happens at these meets? Just chatting and looking or do they put on anything?

(oops sorry just realised it was Alan who did the update. Thanks)

Aye, mainly chatting & looking and this time Malcolm had a few words to say about the tragic fatal race accident of Denis Welch and he also auctioned a few catalogues and Motorsport magazines with proceeds to the local hospice.

Drinks were provided by Malcolm's family with informal payment by donations to the hospice and this year there was a hamburger-type cooking truck selling food instead of the former BBQ with informal donations.

I've not had any news of one.

Usually announced in Club Lotus newsletter.
I wonder if any mention on Club Lotus website.

I spoke to Malcolm at Tim Wilkes Sprint drive out day earlier this year and again at Castle Combe, I asked if he was intending to hold the BBQ this year and he was a little non committal due to the pressure of time he was being put under for organising the Cholmondley Pageant and various other items such as unveiling the plaque recently at the old factory.

The BBQ event has become really popular in recent years and he was saying that perhaps the workshop and paddock was becoming too small a venue and what started out as a small local gathering has started to attract people from all over the country and further afield.

No doubt the event will continue but maybe not this year. I will be sure to enquire when I speak to him next and will also mention it to Don Hands to see if he can casually ask the question of his old race buddy.

Here's hoping for a BBQ this year.
