Historic Lotus Tour This Sunday 13th April

PostPost by: trw99 » Mon Apr 07, 2014 8:15 am

I have just come across this and thought one or two of you in the area may be interested:

On Sunday 13th April 2014 the 750 Motor Club will be running a tour of the historic Lotus/750 sites in North London as part of the club?s 75th Anniversary.

The tour will start at the Alexandra Palace at 11.00 am. The first stop will be Tottenham Lane, site of the first Lotus factory. From Tottenham we will go on to Edmonton to see where Edmonton Tool and Engineering, Williams and Pritchard, Progress Chassis and Cosworth were based in Britain?s first ?Motor racing valley?

After Edmonton we travel to Delamare Rd, Cheshunt, home of Team Lotus, Lotus Components and Lotus Cars form 1959 to 1966. We should be able to park for a photo shoot between the two Lotus buildings, courtesy of the current occupants ? the Monster Gym. Lunch will be in the Monster Gym caf? which was the Team Lotus and Components location.

From Cheshunt we will drive through the Hertfordshire countryside to Panshanger Airfield for afternoon tea. Panshanger was the site of the Lotus service centre and where Colin Chapman and Jim Clark kept their planes so it is an appropriate location to end the tour.

We are keen to have historic Lotus cars on the tour so if you own a Seven, Eleven, Elite or Elan you can ?bring it home? to Cheshunt.

The cost of the tour will be ?20 pp. including lunch and a souvenir illustrated route guide.

Wish I could attend w/ my Eleven, but there's this matter of a rather substantial pond in the way.

Today is the anniversary of the day I first read of Jim Clarck's death.

You're right, Phil, we do. Did anyone go?

I was busy watching an offspring successfully complete the London Marathon for the first - and she says the only - time.
