Mine is as straightforward as they come - I originally registered as 'elanfan' without the '!' but somehow forgot my password and had to reregister and the user name has since been taken my someone else.

Anyway James - 'twas i (Steve - not Bob) that hinted at your California abode but that was because I knew that from having previously sold you some bits. I had not made the association with Northern Ireland at all though I had noticed the spelling difference. Bet that was an accent the locals struggled with for a while - do you still have it?

Mine is explained by a stunning lack of creativity. It was the first elan-based name I could find that wasn't already taken. My brain turns to mush when faced with such unconstrained decisions - my eBay username is no better.

I thought Hollywood was Hollywood also. He was very nice to reply to a WTB for some front shocks and I never picked up his Irish accent in his email.

I just bought my Lotus S3 in January and it needs lots of TLC. I have made good use of the forum and it has been a big help. I owned a Lotus Elan in 1965 until I went into the US Army and then a Lotus Cortina in the early 1970's and then a Lotus 23B in the mid 1980's. I always really wanted another Lotus Elan so when I sold the 1972 BMW 2002tii and did well , I was looking for one. I found the forum during my search and looked at a few cars for sale.

Actually my user name seems a bit arrogant in explanation. I was lucky enough to drive for TWR Silk Cut Jaguar at Le Mans in 1989, even if it was a dnf. I did about 160 races in GTP (Group C) cars in the USA mostly on factory teams but always felt that TWR at Le Mans was the top and everything went downhill from there. I did win 19 IMSA races and still race in vintage races even though my 70th B'day was a few weeks ago. I've done Goodwood Revival a few times and the Monaco Historics. I am not rich so I depend on others asking me to drive and paying for it. I race vintage GTP cars in the USA when asked but mostly drive a Ginetta G4 for an owner in San Diego. There is some nice in-car stuff on YOUTUBE. "Ginetta Coronado"

So, LeMans89 is my way of reminding myself that it actually took place 25 years ago. I should use "ithinkirememberLeMans89" but that's too long and I wouldn't remember.

Tripping over Miata's with every other step here in SoCal, and a good number of friends who have owned them, I would often rub in the fact they were overweight, bloated, piggy Elans. Thus adopting the Pre-zoom from the Mazda advertising campaign.

James, and I had several hours of good old bench racing bantering yesterday. I have to admit, the first time we met, I had a bit of trouble cutting through his Irish accent. Missed about 3 out of 10 words. Either he is getting better at 'merican, or I am getting better at Irish accents, but I am now almost 10 for 10. What I miss today, I blame on old age and too much wax in my ears.
