Top Gear Festival - 8-9 March 2014 - Sydney Motorsport Park

PostPost by: Rozzer » Tue Mar 04, 2014 3:48 am

For anyone caring to come along and catch up, there will be a good smattering of Lotus cars on display at this year's Top Gear Festival at SMP (or Eastern Creek to all those who like me can't get their head around the name change!)
In the display (including from several members on here) are a Seven, Eleven, Elite, Elans (several, including a 26R), Europas, Type 51, M100, Elises (S1 and S2), Exiges (S1, S2 and V6) and a 340R - 20 cars all up.

So come and find us near Gate C (behind the main straight grandstand), and if you fancy joining in the fun next year, come and find me :)

If it doesn't rain too hard, I'll get some photos!

Thanks so much for all those who turned up today (and so promptly!)- it was great to have such a wide variety of cars of all ages and models...stand outs for me had to be Dan's Type 51 (even if it did stay on the trailer!), Marc's beautiful and highly original Elite, Rod's immaculate S1 Elan, Rob's Eclat (with very recently rebuilt brake master!) and the trio of Europas from Graham's very early S1 through the Red and White TCs of Chris and Peter. Photos to follow tomorrow once I get the camera back!

The actual organisation leaves something to be desired, and the on-track events are pretty bogan (Australian for redneck) but all in all it was a fun day to catch up with friends, and find out more about how to tune my 45s :)

See some of you tomorrow!

And thank you Ashton for the behind the scenes work to get the display organised. Well worth the 5am alarm clock wake up. Unlike Top gear, your organisation was exemplary.

Yes I learnt an important lesson yesterday, do not EVER service your car the day before a show. First I broke an oil filler cap. Then my master cylinder got annoyed that I replaced the brake fluid and decided to go on strike....at 7pm the night before! Both potential show stoppers. Only a strip and rebuild would coax that cylinder back to life. A very "Lotus" experience

Psst by the way, it's an Excel, or to be more precise an ?clat Excel. ACBC didn't want to waste a couple of cars on crash testing, so he got clever with his naming......genius.

Thanks Rob - yep, Rod's S1 is rather pretty!

And who says you can't go to a car show in a Lotus - here's mine loaded up for the trip home with the marquee, two flags and, most importantly(!) my chair :)
And one a friend took when I got home - much more artistic...
