Not that I know you other than through seeing your many posts, I am very sorry to hear your news.
A good friend of mine had the same news a few years ago, but I'm pleased to say he's doing very well now. Treatments are improving all the time and as others have said, many of us males get through this.
I certainly wish all the best for you, Alex, I'll be rooting for you.

I must add my best wishes too.

My only brush with this scourge (so far) is that of a good friend at work whose Gleason score went through the roof in the space of a year. He had surgery - done by a robot, no less - and came through with flying colours.

Anyway, we need you until every S3/S4/Sprint Elan has electric windows that work properly. That should keep you busy for ever.

A Sprint-owning friend of mine (not on this forum) surprised me last year with the news that he had undergone 50 treatments and was now clear. I didn't even know that he had been ill. He had no symptoms but had read something in the Telegraph (I think) about the need for testing and he says that without reading that article he certainly would not be in as good condition as he is now.

He insisted that I had a PSA (I'd had one about 5 years ago) and, as my GP is female and very attractive, I asked to be examined "digitally" too! Apparently all is OK but, having read up a little on the subject, I know that it really is important that all of us get regular check-ups, even if there are no symptoms.

Best wishes for your coming treatment and thank-you for raising this issue here, especially as most of the "boys" on here seem to be of a certain age. Thanks also to those of you who have been affected and for posting your positive experiences.

Don't wait for any symptoms, go to your Doc, get the digital check; yes rubber gloved finger up the bum!
Makes you feel a proper twit & it is unpleasant but it only lasts for seconds.
Also insist that a blood test is made for PSA levels. This test is recently being disputed but I feel certain that if my doctor had done that at my annual MOT & service my prostate cancer could have been discovered at an earlier stage.

So men, don't be "chicken" man up & get it done-------------annually! (anally as well )

Just had my annual check-up and managed PSA of 4.2 and Cholesterol of 6.4....just received the appointments for an Echocardiogram and an 6 day event monitor....as of yet I haven't booked the Lotus in for any events this year.....(sorry,telling a lie...http://www.llantransfest.co.uk/ ).....but that's only a 3 day event.

even though the prostate exam will get you automaticaly married in the southen U.S and at the very least a new friend in Scotland do go and get checked . .IF you havent been checked do go and see your doctor ;; please ..there are no symptoms you can relate to .ed ----------and to those of you who have not experenced the trauma of this disease there is a special bond and sense of humour between those of us who have and we use it to help get us through this loss of dignity and sense of fear involved , so dont be so quick to be offfended .or judge us .....

Ed, I was in no way offended, let's get that straight.

The problem, especially here in GB is a massive reluctance by men to visit either a doctor or a dentist.
Mention either & they walk away like a dose of salts!
These "men" walk around in mid Winter in short trousers & short sleeved shirts-----------------proper hard men!
But mention doctor & they're off running into the distance.

We boys who have gone through the prostate cancer thing know what it's all about but sorry mate I fail to find anything amusing about the illness!

Be aware that here on this forum, that you are addressing a mixed bunch not yet facing serious illness!

John ----the one positive thing about this nasty illness is it makes us realise the value of life . We make fun of illness to help us through it . It is form of black humour to help us fight back , the alternative is to sit around and feel helpless .People who have not experienced this nasty thing really have no right to an oppinon .and I agree with you about the men who dont want to get checked .ed

It's a fair point John.. Just me being (silly) me.

There is indeed nothing funny about Illness! Oh how true I know that to be. I have had the worst 4 months of my life, but some humour I find helps me. I did not think it through. & the last thing I want is to stop anyone going for help when they should.

I have a decent collection of good whiskies I need to sample so an early dinner calls after whichI will get started to a couple of drams...

One thing I am doing... Having almost zero appetite, I am eating only what I really do enjoy. Everything from Humble 'stovies' to a good mixed tandoorie.. local (very good) Chinese does a magic crispy duck & it's on tonight' s nosh menu for delivery at 6 pm ...

Am I wrong?
