Some news. Not good!

Hi Guys

This post is mainly for those wondering where I went for a while...... :(

Just been diagnosed with Prostate cancer. :? Thought I would tell you all direct rather than waiting for the bush telegraph to fire up ...

Carol and I are very positive and aware of the treatment options available ( After the required scans to check for migration etc) so are feeling ok with it... Very treatable with good results we are told so it's onwards one step at a time.

I had 4 days in hospital on a antibio drip after they gave me a good dose of E Coli during the biopsy operation .. Got out on Xmas eve!!! We did not have the best of Xmas / new year celebrations this year as you can imagine, mainly due to between the ears problems... Hey ho. Feeling better about it now.

In the event of things not going the best for me (us) I will be selling my Sprint which you guys will get 1st chance at. The ramp it sits on would then also be up for sale... We are confident all will be ok (according to the docs) so with any luck......

Good luck and GOOD HEALTH to you all in 2014...

Alex.

Hi Alex

I hope all goes well.

I was diagnosed with prostate cancer back in 2003 so I know how shattering the news can be.

I had the full course of radiotherapy and was told that I was all clear.

Unfortunately I wasn't.

In retrospect (and from a psychological point of view) I wish I had gone for the operation and had it removed.

Hopefully you have been caught early.

Mind you they've kept me going now for 10 years and I'm soon starting a course of chemo which will hopefully give me a bit more time.

I too have made plans for my beloved Elan.

Look on the bright side Alec.
There are thousands of men wandering around with Prostate cancer.
It can be kept well under control with quarterly hormone injections & a 7 week course of radiotherapy.
An operation may also be possible but is not always the best way!!!
I went through it all 2012/13 & my cancer is well under control.
As they say "you can die of it but so many just die with it"---------------Prostate cancer is not a killer so look on the sunny side.

Worse things happen at sea!

Cheers
John

Hi John,

Blimey! Small world. I can't remember at all if you told me that, but then I have to have a memo to remind me to take my ticker pills..

Your words have lifted both Carol and I (Just read her your message), and she sends her regards and best wishes.

Top man! Thanks again. Just what the doctor ordered  .. I may be back with some questions later.

The consultant told me he is seeing approx 5 new cases per day!! Not a good statistic.

Sorry to hear your news Alex and being in poor health myself I understand the value of good health and I also understand the "between the ears" problem.

As John says, these days many people are living with cancer as our understanding of the condition grows.

Onwards and upwards old chap, it's going to be a great Lotus summer

They can't cure unless they remove the gland and that as john just said is sometimes not the best option.

But it can be treated quite effectively and kept under control. Even worst case scenarios.

I kinda found it myself by asking for a PSA check during one of my CHD 6 monthly checks. The PSA was up slightly so my GP ordered another and gave me some antibiotics to take away (on holiday)with me. I had handed in a Urine sample. I got home to a message on my home phone asking me to call him and to start taking the tabs ( I had already and was feeling great) he gave me as I did indeed have a Urine infection. When I went to see him he said my PSA had spiked up and he had referred me for a check over. I waited 3 weeks. Consultant said yes PG is abnormal and set up the biopsy.. I waited 6 weeks for that. Had the biopsy and landed in hosp' with E Coli and got out Xmas eve..Struth.... Diagnosis confirmed on Friday PM.. Now waiting for Scans...

I would not wish the mental torture on my worst enemy.. Getting over it now after chats with consultant and specialist nurse. Both of whom have confirmed what has been said above.. Very treatable and very slow moving.. Hence the slightly no rush approach.

We are quite cool with it now but sure could have done without it... :(

Thanks for the very helpful support guys... :D

Al' ....
