Road Tax, but no more tax discs.

UK Government & DVLA are going to stop issuing the actual tax disc now. It is no longer useful because whether on not a vehicle is taxed is now checked by cameras, police and rapid access to the DVLA database.

So if you want your classic car to look its part exactly, I guess you will need to make a replica each year to go on the windscreen. I wonder if that would count as forgery.

Just waiting for the no MOT required for pre 1974 cars now then!

My MOT tester this year asked if I had blue halogen light bulbs or HID lights, as he wasn't sure which was fitted. He went on to say that blue halogen bulbs would pass the MOT but HID lights would fail unless there were self cleaning mechanisms on the headlamps. I of course pointed him in the correct direction to pass the car for it's annual MOT test.

A point of concern regarding the number plate recognition cameras is that I'm not convinced that they can pick up the front numbers on my +2 as they are pretty much obscured at anything more than 10 degrees above horizontal and difficult to read head on, the S4 is not much better.

There is one of those on an industrial estate near me that shows the registration number on a roadside display. When the weather improves i'll give it a try.

Yes they have just done the same thing in Australia ( well In the state of Victoria at least) and eliminated the annual registration sticker - they just look it up now on the computer - no more changing the sticker on my Esprit which was a real pain with its steeply sloped windscreen. However as limited use classic and historic car registrations are not on the computer system ( for my Elan and Plus 2) you still need one for these plus the log book you have to fill in each day you use it to record the 45 or 90 days per year you have paid for.

cheers

So I guess my original 1969 tax disc will soon be worth mega money!

If you leave it on your car and park in the street, certainundesirable citizens will presume your car has been abandoned and will nick the wheels and all other removable parts.

I live in Ontario, Canada & they have no idea what it is here. It's actually stored safely in my house.
