Happy 50th birthday

PostPost by: Bill » Thu Dec 19, 2013 7:06 am

December 20, 1963

My Elan 1600, 26/0538 was conceived.

I received confirmation by 'pro forma' invoice from the factory of my purchase deposit and that she was in the works. At that time I was able to buy the car direct from the factory as there were no dealers yet established in Canada. It cost 1,240 Pnds. (~$3,600) with all available factory options; radio, tonneau cover and Dunlop SP radials.

Bill

That must have been a great feeling, buying and then receiving your ?lan.

Can we see some pictures of the birthday boy (or girl)?

HI Bill,
Happy birthday to 0538 & hope you are fully recovered from your surgery earlier this year. It was good to see you & your baby this summer. Hope you get some chance this winter to still go for the odd drive. No chance now here in Ontario since we had all the snow & then salt on the roads.

Sorry guys, If I could figure out how to send a photo I would - but I am flumexed. I also have a short Utube clip on the car done by our local cable provider a couple of months ago - I cant figure out how to do the link for that either.

The car is stored for the winter but I am laid up now anyway, I had the main artery in my right leg replaced as well as a stent installed 2 weeks ago so i cant drive for another month anyway. All my worn parts have been replaced with OEM or authorised spares.

Good now till factory expirery date'

Roger

Thanks for finding it for me, and thanks all for everybodys kind wishes. I will take the time over Christmas to sort out attachments on the forum.

I loved that video - you are indeed a lucky guy to have been able to enjoy your Elan for such a long time. It gives me encouragement to get mine finished. I hope your medical maladies are now in the past and you can enjoy more marvellous drives in the car.

Bill,

Can you confirm the taillights on your car are the original parts?
I've often wondered if the cars for North American used the same tail lamps as the UK cars
but it seems they didn't.
