Looks good, Rob! Do the different paint schemes on the cam cover indicate SE and standard?

Thanks Greg, it's kind of you to say so.

The engine with green cam cover is out of my '67 S3 S/E DHC. When I got the car the engine was in it's original paint, the reason I believe that is that the chassis number was still written in black marker pen on the front of the cylinder head. I also believe that the cam covers on the S3 S/E came in two shades - a frosty mint green and what looks like BMC A series green, however with Lotus who knows, I'm sure there are other different but perfectly original shades.

My S2 is a standard car, it had one long term owner and a second owner that hardly used the car. The cam cover had been striped of paint, but I believe that all early standard Elan engines had a blue hammered finish. Most people use Hammerite, I think it's close enough. In 1984 I bought a standard (non S/E) Elan from Mick and Sue Miller, the car was nineteen years old and hadn't been restored (Mick had painted the body from it's original silver to yellow), but the engine was untouched, what was left of the paint on the cam cover was a light hammered blue with more than a hint of green in it, so when I painted my S2 cam cover I went for what I thought was a similar shade.

It's probably hard to see the true colour of the cam covers as they were photographed under artificial light.

Hope all is well with you.

All the best,

Rob

I like you Bob, I like you a lot, but having children at our age... I'm not sure about it and there is your dear lady to consider and I suppose I'd have to speak to my dear lady too.

Seriously :D Harry loves the cars, but like a lot of young people nowadays, I don't think he likes soiling his hands.

The S3 drives really well. It would cruise comfortably at 80, were that legal. It stops on a sixpence/dime and the TTR fast road comfort suspension really works well.

Cheerio!

Rob, You are a good friend. BTW, my dear lady has been SWMBO lately, but don't spread that around. :D

I'm glad that Harry likes the Elans and I understand about his hands.

It will be interesting to see how you like the S3 compared with the S2? when you get it back to stock.

"my dear lady has been SWMBO lately"

And Bob? That's a normal state of affairs for all of us.
