RUSH the Movie

I'm wondering what people here think about RUSH the Movie? I went to see it this week-end but despite all the great reviews, I was disappointed. The shots of the cars were great and race scenes we fantastic.
I don?t think it did justice to either James Hunt or Niki Lauda. Hunt was never that good looking or Lauda that ugly. The race cinematography was fantastic. But honestly there was more excitement watching my 8 year old son at any of his go-kart races than I felt watching the movie. That what was missing I guess, ? excitement. Motor racing in any form is exciting
.
I would put it second to old movie ?Grand Prix? and in motor racing if you?re not ?First? you?re LAST

Let me know what you think.

James

Well ...I found the story fairly accurate ..objected to the Cevert accident photos from the Glen showing the mangled decapitated body of the poor man.. ..and the film clip where "Hunt shrugs off the marshal " at the Glen .. in reality he sucker punched the marshal ,Ernie strong , at mosport when Ernie tried to escort him over the Armco to safety ....a good comparison of Hunt the shunt and the methodical approach of Lauda ...really in my opinion Hunt should never have been in F1..he was not just stable enough ....Ed :|

As an aside ..Lauda would not have suffered face burns if the drivers had not pulled his helmet and balaclava off in the panic to attempt to get him out ..ed

I saw it with my wife on Friday evening, both she & I thoroughly enjoyed it. She said she would have liked to see more on characters like Hesketh & Hunt... I really enjoyed seeing all the F1 cars back together again.
I thought that the film could easily been an hour longer, but the cinemas would not want that!!

I didn't consider Rush to be a racing movie. While the background is the 76 Formula season, it is a character movie. The movie focuses on two men facing the same demons and how each handled it different. The racing cinematography was good.

After watching the movie, we went home and watched the BBC documentary on the same topic. It was interesting the number of scenes pulled directly from the documentary.

If you are going to see a race movie, I think you will be disappointed. If you are going to see a movie that happens to be about racing, I think you will enjoy it.

welll ...much of the race footage was stock film of the actual events, available to any one , so the TV people had access to the footage also for their production . The film is a story of two different men and their approach to life and success with racing as a background .I enjoyed it somewhat

Hi

I am looking forward to the movie as I watched James Hunt thrash all the competition at the British GP after the dispute over his joining the race after the start accident. A great race I will never forget, also met the big man himself Colin Chapman.

At the showing I attended there were 18 grey hairs and half had wives who I assume condescended to come along and 6 teens one who commented on the way out. " who was that 80 year old man they showed at the end ? What did he have to do with it ?........

My girl friend, who is as far from a technologist and car enthusiast as possible, saw the movie with me and enjoyed it immensely, She found some other references to to the movie and the period that she forwarded to me, so the movie is attractive to a non-core audience. Pretty much like Senna.

I enjoyed it but like others mentioned it was a character driven film that happened to be about racing. What was the BBC documentary called? I'd like to see that.

I thought Ron Howard pitched the film just right regarding making a documentary and a good drama. Captured the era very well and all the track scenes were very well shot.
