Hi Sean,
I would suggest a PM to Gino in Milan would be a good start; Gino1 is his user name

If some shady character suggests to you pay him to look after your car; pay him!

Had a long chat with Gino today - very helpful. Bringing the car over before completing it was a bad idea. So, I'm looking for a trailer on ebay. The tricky bit is insurance. I will take the car from its secure location here in Italy, put it onto my trailer on our property, then drive it straight to the uk only stopping for calls of nature and the odd nap. I need some sort of insurance for it. Has anyone found a company that'll cover a car like this while it's on a trailer? Footman James don't want to know.
Thanks.
Sean.

I gave up on FJ years ago.
I currently insure with Hagerty, who were able to halve the premium and increase the cover.
I know that my insurance with Hagerty covers me towing the car on a trailer as I have discussed it with them.
You may find that it is your residential status etc. that is the issue rather than the towing.
You haven't really explained what you are trying to do - are you now trying to insure the car in the UK? in which case you want a UK insurance policy......

Hi. I'll take a look at Hagerty.
I want to take the car back to my home in the UK, which is my main residence. The car is registered in the UK and has been in my garage there for the last 12 years until 6 weeks ago when it arrived here in Italy with our furniture. I just need insurance for the journey back. I want to buy a trailer and tow it back - it's an easy journey although long. Once back in the UK I'll either keep the insurance that I got for the journey if worthwhile, or get a new policy.

It sounds like you are trying to buy insurance to cover the journey. Rather than normal insurance that also cover the journey. This will confuse most insurers as you are asking for something unusual.
Try asking for a normal quote - laid-up cover, UK addresses etc. Then explain that the car is in Italy and ask if the insurance covers moving it.
Answer the questions truthfully, and don't confuse them with stories about Italy!
Why can't you get laid-up cover in Italy? Don't they have classic cars?

Too much paperwork to do anything with the car over here. I just want it home. I'll phone round insurance companies - I just checked the insurance on my bmw and that policy doesn't cover what's being towed for third party, which is disappointing. It's taking longer to find insurance than it would to take the car home!
