Lotus Elan

Lotus track day Castle Combe 25th May 2013

PostPost by: Etienne 7 » Fri May 24, 2013 9:11 am

Yes, but Etienne cannot make it :( .

Why was that event organised on a bank holiday weekend?

If all goes to plan, my car will lose its Alfa engine this winter....

Cheers,

Etienne

Etienne,
Sorry you can't make it. It would have been good to see your car with it's Alfa engine still in place, have you posted any pictures of it here? If not perhaps you could take the time and trouble to do so, I'm sure there are plenty of others like me who are genuinely interested to see it.

Is the Bank Holiday date a problem because of other commitments?
Kindest regards

Thanks Robbie,

Maybe I should have used the search facility

That engine doesn't look too wrong in there, I would be tempted to leave it as it is. The modified bonnet doesn't look too good though--- I remember the thread and the story of how that happened now of course.
Kindest regards

Yes, other commitments: going to Salcombe for the whole week-end.

Alan, if you come around Bristol another time, give me a shout and I will show you the car with pleasure. I don't know if you still go often to Spyder (having read your posts and stories, you spent quite a lot of time there over the last few years...), but the car may end up there this winter to be worked on.

The new bonnet (from Paul Matty) is perfect. It needs to be adjusted but fits well enough to be driveable safely.

Cheers,

Etienne

Well if you fancy a nice drive to the "seaside" in your Elan Etienne you could pop down to Burnham-on-Mud.
The kettle's always on at my house :)

Cheers

Well the weather forecast is for sunshine all day reaching 16 degrees (but I bet it will be hotter) - so no excuses

Not really I'm naturally a bit of a glass half empty sort of bloke, but take a look at this:

That does look very promising; it'll be good when this wind dies down, its whistling around my ears in this neck of the woods.
I've just put up the hood on the Elan ready for the drive tomorrow, just in case.

it's peeing down with rain here at the moment (Tunbridge Wells), but yes that forecast for tomorrow is mirrored on the BBC Weather section of their web site.http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2653597?day=1

Hope it stops raining this evening so that I can get some Go Juice for tomorrow without needing to leather down the car afterwards! Had enough of polishing for a while....

Taff: I have got the Ray Bans packed but can't promise on the stripey shirt.... (see avatar)

Looking forward to meeting friends old and new.

Wow wot a super day!
St.Peter obliged us with the first fine weather for a long time.
I had a great day meeting old friends & making new ones.

I will soon have an original "black badge" S4 Elan, having bought the correct badge from Spyderfan Alan :)

Strangely the attendance appeared to be down in comparison to other Castle Combe Lotus Track Days that I've attended.
I wonder could the Bank Holiday weekend have had an effect on the turn out.

Sorry for you guys that missed a lovely day.
Cheers
John

Cracking day out and good to meet John (GrumpyBodger) and Alan (SpyderFan) in the real world (as opposed to the virtual).

Yes a good day out and nice to meet up with old and new faces.

We got home about 8pm taking 3 hours for the return journey.

For the first time I didn't run on track, and it was a pleasure to spend some time socialising.
Kindest regards

Hi All,
Had a fantastic day - meeting old and new faces and the weather was good in that it was not too hot or too cold. :D

Elan drove really well there and back and got waylaid and lost EN-route back but managed to arrive eventually at e Three Horseshoes in PrincetHORPE and thanks to all who waited there till I arrived !

Went to upload all photos I'd taken on the day of all the cars and those on the parade lap and lost all photos due to memory card being corrupted - has anyone any photos they can share please ?

Also having attended a session three years ago - where visitors were able to watch cars from the pit lane wall - this was not permitted this year ???- have the rules changed as it would been great to get some photos from that angle.

Thanks all for catch up and look forward to meeting up again next year !!!!
