UNIVERSAL CARS ??

PostPost by: eggie » Sun Apr 21, 2013 8:55 pm

Does anyone know who Universal Cars were ? The information I do know is that Lotus Cars dealt with this firm in the mid 1960s. Does anyone have any information on who they were, which country they traded from or any information at all however insignificant. I have contacted the Lotus archivest and they have no more information other than that Universal Cars are mentioned in the Lotus sale books for that era.

I have been doing some research on dealers and managed to track down Universal Cars Ltd to 59 Orchard Rd, Singapore 9. They were Ford dealers for Singapore from c1910.

I have seen an advertisement where they record that they race prepared a Lotus 23 for Albert Poon and that he won the 1963 Malaysia grand prix in it! Poon was active in the region during the mid 1960s, Australia too, I believe.

Very interesting. Answers always lead to more questions I wonder how many Lotus cars were sold to Singapore
Does anyone have any further information about Mr Poon
