The LOCO Four to the 4

Many of you have heard about our Colorado Good, where we do a bit less than the Colorado Grand; three days instead of four, about 800 miles instead of over a thousand miles; stay at good hotels instead of grand hotels and dine at good small yet really cool specialty restaurants with reasonable prices. This will be our fourth trip and will go to the Four Corners via Telluride and Pagosa Springs.

Our plan is to meet at 8:30 on Saturday May 18th, depart at 9:00, drive down scenic US 285 through Fairplay and trout Creek Pass, to just before Buena Vista where we will be joined by our Colorado Springs friends, then proceed to lunch in Gunnison, CO. After a leisurely lunch we will head west on US 50 skirt the southern rim of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison and proceed to Ridgeway where we turn west and drive by Ralph Lauren?s ranch (for about a half hour) on to drinks and lovely accommodations in Telluride, CO at the Victorian Inn where we have a $79 room rate (discounted from $104) if you mention Lotus Car Club or LOCO. Dinner arrangements are still pending. The day?s drive is 311 miles and about six hours plus stops.

Sunday morning, May 19th, breakfast is included in the hotel rate and we then depart about 9:00 for the Four Corners via Lizard Head Pass, Dolores and Cortez. This is another great Lotus road with spectacular scenery, and one you probably have never been on before. We will head to lunch via the Four Corners Monument and then take US 64 in New Mexico then east to Pagosa Springs. There we will stay at the Springs Resort and Spa with discounted room rates of $159 a $40 discount from the normal $199 rate if you mention Lotus Car Club or LOCO. The room rate includes access to 23 pools which is a wonderful experience (and a $43 value per person) so this makes the room rate quite tolerable. Dinner arrangements are still pending. This day?s drive is 307 miles and about 6 hours plus stops.

Monday morning, May 20th, we will depart after breakfast back on US 160 over breathtaking Wolf Creek Pass. From the overlook on the west side the entire valley lies before us and is the perfect backdrop for a group commemorative photo. After crossing the divide and heading north to Buena Vista for lunch, folks can either go back to Denver on I-70 via Leadville, or via US 285 return to either Denver or take US 24 to Colorado Springs. This day is 257 miles and about 4 ? hours Depart 8:30 arrive 3:00 before rush hour traffic after three fantastic days and 875 miles of Colorado and New Mexico scenery and Lotus roads

These are some more great driving roads just made for our Lotus cars. As someone who has driven roads in Arizona, Utah, Tennessee and Texas hill country that are claimed to be the ?best?, I am here to tell you that these roads we will be taking put them all to shame. The route is here: http://goo.gl/maps/Wsycp

If you are anywhere near Colorado in the middle of May, come join us. This will be fun.

Ross,

Your tour sounds absolutely wonderful. Sue and I enjoyed those roads a few weeks after we were first married, though not in our Elan. Southwestern Colorado is some of the most varied and beautiful country I have seen. Sue still has the unique cast silver and turquoise bracelet we bought in Cortez.

I can't make this year, but would love to do the tour next year!

Regards,
Dan Wise

Dan,

We do one of these runs every spring before the RV sloths start clogging the scenic routes in the state and again in the fall after they go back into hibernation so keep watching. You are welcome to join us anytime as a charter member of LOCO ;~) Or if someone is reading this who is not, the invitation still stands.
