Tax free 1973

PostPost by: TonyJ » Sat Apr 13, 2013 9:34 pm

Read in Practical Classics that as from April 2014 cars built before 1st Jan 1974 will be Tax free :D . This could be good news for me as my +2 has a id number 73******L meaning, I think, that it was built in 1973. After this year no more Tax to pay :D . But it was registered in 1974 - it is a N reg.

Questions;
Does the id starting 73 mean built in 1973? Will the DVLA already know this?
Does the fact it was first registered in 1974, having a N reg, mean I will have to get in discusion with the DVLA in order to get Tax exemption? Seem to remember when the rolling 25 years Tax exemption came in there were people who had a similar problem of reg year being different to build year.

This was discussed when the change was made in this year's budjet.

You will need a letter from the Lotus Archivist or Club Lotus.

I had the same issue re 72/73. My Elan was built in 1972 and registered in 1973. A letter from Lotus saying that my are was built in 1972 was all that I needed to get tax exemption..

Good luck
