Salut
I asked Daven Bean about his catalog - free, but $28 to post to France. What's in it? Is it worth it? Do they have parts no other supplier can refresh?
Merci

There is an abundance of technical info in it....if you have trouble sleeping it is well worth it...

I have a copy that was back 20 years ago, but it had many more pages. A complete parts list with diagrams and a seperate price sheet that was updated annually. But just an observation, it seems that all the prices from the UK suppliers are much lower across the board. Sue Miller, Paul Matty, SJ Sports cars. Sometimes as much as 1/3. So even with shipping to the US and customs duties (about 2.5%), it was much more economical to source my parts from them outside of the very large parts like headers and glass. So from France, unless you have some crazy import duties or VAT, I would believe your costs would be so much more viable than shipping from the west coast USA unless you need a special part that Dave only has.

Get the catalog.
Consider it the handbook that should come with every used Elan.

It is what we, in the olde worlde, would call an A4 ring binder. Just to be different it has three rings (at least my version does). It is much more than a catalogue of parts and has an awful lot of pages of information.
Cheers,
Pete.

Vernon, here's what it looks like & an example of a couple of pages. Yes it is a catalog, but there is a lot of technical information as well.
It weighs 1.2 Kg (2.6 Lbs), if you are not in a hurry have them send it by sea.

Very naughty for copyrighted material, but perhaps as it's free in the USA Dave Bean wouldn't mind somebody doing that, but you would need it in writing first. I have a duplex multi page feed scanner that composes straight to pdf, so the original Lotus workshop manuals are possible, but once again they are still copyright.
Kindest regards

If in the end we order goods from him, I think he won't mind!

I'm sure you're right Cedric, but that is why I am asking Sue Miller before posting her catalog here.
p.s. I am not volunteering to post the Bean catalog either, it must be twenty times larger!

Salut
The catalogue costs $6 normally - I'm getting one for 'free' because I have to pay $28 postage.
I don't feel easy or right about distributing documents that one normally has to pay for. Dave Bean has deliberately chosen not to put the catalogue on line to provide a better service - his opinion and choice which has to be respected.
If he says yes to freely distributing his catalogue by PDF than that's another matter, of course.
Service manuals could possibly be considered differently. They're now over 40 years old in most cases, and the current printing is of poor quality (here I'm speaking of the +2 service manual from a Lotus dealer - the electrical diagrams are unuseable).
IMHO this sort of request should be conducted discreetly, if at all.
