LOG 33 - 51 Elans is this possible?

PostPost by: elancoupe » Wed Nov 28, 2012 2:31 am

It should be possible.... I counted 31 Elans in my picture from LOG 10 in Akron, and there was no organized effort to get that many.

To everyone that has replied or is following this thread.

There are a lot of reasons this type of thing happens or doesn't. The cars have to be near enough and the owners have to have an interest in being there. I guess that is pretty obvious but the reasons to be there are varied. Some want to see the cars, meet the people that own them, see the area where the event takes place. This event has those going for it and a few others. The race and all of the other great cars that show up, new and old, Lotus and all the others that folks drive or bring a car to race. Lotus Limited will be doing there yearly thing. Then there is the lotuselan.net connection, do you want to meet those folks that you have read and conversed with in person (I'll ware my target shirt :) ) that are in the area that attend? I believe that the weekend will fly by and you wonder how it ended so soon. Lotus East was just over the border in Millerton, NY, They pumped a lot of the elans into the area when they were in business, and the area still has a high concentration of early Lotus cars. Being in the rust belt this is not the first area that folks looking for an Elan go shopping, I've told plenty of people look else where if they were looking to buy (yes I am pretty selfish SOB, I want them all :D ), many are just put away for later and you know the rest of the story. There are quite a few with MLD (Multiple Lotus Disorder) and I guess I have it worse than most.

Anyway, thats the gist of why I think the 51 number is really possible, the 100 Elan goal is not likely but I do believe that it could happen, all it takes is a bunch of like minded folks to do it (get to work and get them running, there is enough time if you start now, like today!) and it will happen. If you missed it, there is a good chance that you'd be kicking yourself for years if thats the kind of thing you wanted to see or be part of. I am beating the fiberglass drums early as I would like to be part of it and see it happen in a big way. Like I said I am selfish.

We had 5 Elans at a Cars and Caffeine get together in New Canaan CT a few weeks ago and I would think all 5 would make it to Lime Rock (only 70 miles away).

51 would be cool!

From Tony Vaccaro of LOONY:

Bad news, LOG 33 in Limerock is no longer occurring.

GOOD NEWS! LOG33 IS AT WATKINS GLEN! AND WE?RE THE HOST CLUB!

THE DATE: August 2, 3, and 4, 2013. For those that do not know, LOG is the national convention of the Lotus Ltd car club, of which we are an affiliate.

Host hotel is the Radisson in Corning, New York. Friday reception, Saturday Banquet, and possibly Sunday Dinner will be held at the host hotel. We will be at the track on Saturday for the concourse. Yes, you heard us right. We will be right back where we were, at LOG7, doing our panoramic photo and concourse at the infield of the track in the same place we did it 25 years ago. There will also be a laps and lunch event on Sunday for those interested. Track day: we are pleased to announce that the Porsche Club of Northern New Jersey has allowed our members to join in their 3-day track event. The track event will be held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. If you are interested in doing the track event please contact Tony for more information. You will have to register the very first day to get in, as their events fill up quickly.

Some more info from Tony here, Expect he will post updates there regularly.

http://www.lotustalk.com/forums/f333/lo ... rk-122762/

Unfortunately the revised timing won't work for me next year as I am already committed to a big event my wife puts on locally. Hope everyone has a great time. Sounds like a great venue.

I checked the Porsche club site, and like Ross says their track day fills up the first day registrations open (8 weeks prior to the event), and everyone else is on a waiting list. Also looks like a potentially more rigorous deal for tech inspections. Bit of a hassle, but three days of track events! :) Tony hasn't posted any additional track info yet, but if interested looks like you need to get on it early. Sure the Elise/Exige guys at LotusTalk will be all over Tony & the P-car guys for arrangement details shortly though, particularly if space is limited. Even just a few laps of the Glen at lunch would be great!

The Glen should work well for me that weekend - hope to see everyone there.

I'll probably be at Lime Rock as well, but busy racing with Clark!

Here is some additional info from Tony regarding LOG planning. The new thread is in a different spot...

http://www.lotustalk.com/forums/f96/log ... -a-122977/

Fellow Lotus Owners,

The Lotus Owners Gathering (LOG) is something we look forward to every year
as a memorable and fun event. This year's co-chairs, Tony Vaccaro and
Brian Vaccaro, plan to continue the tradition of creating such an event.
Both have plenty of experience as this is their 22nd and 6th LOG to be
attended by the co-chairs, respectively.

Plan to be in Watkins Glen, NY the weekend of August 2nd , 3rd and 4th.

We are bringing LOG back to its early days of 1986 when a bunch of "new"
Lotus friends, from LOG 6 in Vermont, came together at a Pizza Hut in
Rochester NY to create a club known as LOONY. The LOONY's explicit plan was
to hold a LOG at Watkins Glen race track the following year. 1987 became
notable as it was the year that Lotus Ltd invited Doug Chadwick to take the,
now mandatory, panoramic photo of the car show. This year will be the 25th
panoramic picture for Doug and LOG..

Our speaker in 1987 was Innes Ireland, a Lotus F1 driver and speaker
extraordinaire. One of the true gentleman racers of his time and a great
story teller, Innes drove Jimmy Clarks Lotus 38 around the Glen track and
entertained LOG guests with stories and grand prix memories. It became a
weekend to go down as one of the best in LOG history.

We invite you to recreate the magic of 1987 and join us back at the Glen and
view the wonderful country known as the Finger Lakes region of New York
State.

This year's LOG will find its home base hotel at the Radisson in Corning NY,
about 22 miles from Watkins Glen race track. The Friday reception, held at
the Radisson, will include a wine tasting from the local vineyards. Our car
show, concourse, and lunch will be held at Watkins Glen race track at the
same location where we took the panoramic photo back in 1987. Our banquet
will be held at the Radisson on Saturday night where you can enjoy dinner
with old and new Lotus friends. On Sunday we will be offering you a "Laps
and Lunch" activity at the Glen allowing you to drive your Lotus around the
track for 3 laps. Included with the laps are a photo opportunity at the
finish line and lunch at the Glen Club, the tracks restaurant in the infield
of the track.

We also have plans for incoming rallies with awards being given out Friday
night. A Sunday touring rally for those that want to take in the wonderful
scenery of the wine country of NY gives our members the opportunity to be
tourists in Finger Lake wine country, in their Lotus. An autocross on
Sunday is available for those wanting to stretch their cars legs without
doing a full track experience. For those wishing for a true, and vigorous,
track day experience we have arranged with the Northern New Jersey Region
Porsche Club of America to have our members to be able to register for
their 3 day drivers education event at the Glen that weekend, starting on
Friday and ending on Sunday. This is solely a Northern NJ Porsche Club
managed and run activity. As this is an event is not an official part of
LOG, anyone wishing to attend this track activity will have to register with
the Northern NJ Porsche club through their website and it is done on a first
come, first registered basis. Please email us for more information on
signing up for this event.

We will have our usual photo, model and crafts contests, so don't forget to
bring your photos, models and crafts.

It is the feeling and belief of your two co-chairs that LOG is all about the
people and the cars that make up Lotus Owners. It does not get much better
than the camaraderie, the friendships, and the excitement of LOG. Have a
bit to eat, walk among the Lotus cars in the parking lot, renew old
friendships, and make new ones. That is what LOG is all about and that is
what we are celebrating.

We hope you will come join us at LOG this year and share with us the
wonderful Lotus-filled weekend.

We encourage everyone to make their reservations early at the Radisson in
Corning (607) 962-5000. Make sure to mention Lotus Ltd or Lotus Car Club
for our rate of $129 and $139 per night. Overflow hotels will be suggested
should the hotel fill up.

Additional information will be available at http://www.log33.com as soon as we have
a chance to get the webpage up after the first of the year.

LOG co-chairs,
Tony Vaccaro and Brian Vaccaro

Looks like a nice drive up from Baltimore.

Hopefully, I can recruit some others from the Mid-Atlantic area to drive up in force.

It is a very nice drive. We had taken this route with various Lotus over the years. From Newport News we take rt-17 to rt_15. On rt-17 you pass by the little league hall of fame Little League Museum, 525 Route 15 Highway http://www.littleleague.org/learn/museu ... ctions.htm

Hi all,

I saw this while looking for the post about Sports Cars Unlimited. Since I am being quoted, I thought I would post out and correct my statements.

LOG this year is planned for August 2.3.4 at Watkins Glen NY and Corning NY. My son and I are the Co-Chairs. We would have liked to have celebrated the Elan, but it was done last year sp we figured it was out of the possibiity., although not many showed up. I would serioiusly look at doing something this year. Especailly since someone said that the first cars did not come here until 1963. Our current plan to to celebrate all of the people that make up the Lotus world, all the frineds we have made, and continue to make. Lotus Ltd has been around for 40 years. The LOONYs (Lotus Owners of NY) for 25 years. We have made a lot of friends and I believe that the people in the Lotus world are like no other car club.

I will be bringing my Elan and I know of at least 5 more that are coming. I would have to discuss it with my co-chair and see what he thinks.

Could you guys make it for Aug 2,3,4? I hope to have a small page up at http://www.LOG33.com by tonight. But you can see it at http://www.lotusowners.com/LOG33 right now.

EDIT...about 20 minutes later. I have to aplogize. Guess I am getting old. I was looking at the thread on my android and I only saw the first page. I thought I had replied to this before, but at my age, I sometimes forget what I replied to so I replied again. Of course I have already covered the change in location and time. But I do like and am interested in making more of the Elan thing. Will talk to my son and see what we can agree on.
