Innocent until proven guilty and all that, but I'm pretty sure that I've contacted by a scammer.
I posted a request for diff rear cover in the Wanted section a few weeks ago and a known member of the forum is helping me. So I think I'm going to be all set.
However, a couple of days ago I received, via email:

There were a few instant alarm bells here:
- I've no idea how he got my email, which wasn't in my Wanted request.
- I checked his membership of the forum and he joined the same day that he contacted me. I figured that anybody with an Elan diff cover to sell would almost certainly be an established forum member.
- I did a Google search for his email address and he pops up in other automotive forum comments as a scammer posing as a seller of auto parts.
So, out of curiosity I responded and he has claimed to have a cover and some other stuff for sale, at a high but not totally outrageous price, and added: "I will be shipping via UPS or FedEx on a 3 - 4 working days delivery and will accept payment via Money Gram as my PayPal is currently dormant."
Bingo, the last alarm bell:
- He wants payment via MoneyGram (gee, do we all seem that dumb?)
I responded again saying that I would never use a Money Gram service and asked for some photos. I've not heard back (but then it's only been 24 hours).
Once again, innocent until proven guilty, and I wouldn't normally post something like this until I was more sure of what's going on. But if he's started trolling the Wanted section I don't want anybody to get bitten.

I've suddenly realized that this is exactly the same modus operandi as reported by dave240 as the first entry in this thread, back in 2012.
Heck - at least change the pitch!

Nick, anyone can send you an email as there is an '@' sign under your name and location information on each of your posts on elan.net.
Anyway, well spotted and thanks for the heads up.

Tim,
Oh, right, I'd never noticed that before. So he didn't have my email address until I replied. Ho hum.
I now see that some folk don't have the @ sign, and that contact via email can be disabled under Board Preferences in my Forum Profile.
Thanks,
Nick
