Carmel Concours on the Ave - Aug 14th: Elan 50th Class

PostPost by: khamai » Mon Aug 06, 2012 9:12 pm

The 2012 Carmel-By-The-Sea Concours on the Avenue will have special Elan Class to recognize and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Elan!

A few weeks ago the Golden Gate Lotus Club (GGLC) was contacted by Lotus Cars USA and the Concours with the idea of doing a Lotus display along side LCU's sponsor display. It didn't take long for the GGLC to say "yes" with the concept of doing display of Elans to celebrate the the 50th birthday of these unique sports cars. The Concours organizers loved the idea and decided to create a special class for the GGLC display for some friendly Concours competition.

The Carmel COTA is an annual fixture in the Monterey "Car Week". Each year this charity event features some of the amazing cars that are part of the some of the other shows, exhibits, races and events later in the week (including Pebble Beach entrants). The Carmel COTA is open to the public, there's no admission charge. It takes place right in downtown Carmel on Ocean Avenue.

The GGLC Elan class and display will have 6 Elans from GGLC members including a pair of S2 Elan DHCs, S3 FHC, S4 FHC, S4 DHC, Sprint.

For more information about the Carmel COTA - http://www.motorclubevents.com/

Please come by and say "Hi" and check out the entire event!

Cheers,
Kiyoshi

An amazing event! Thanks to the organizers and Lotus Cars USA (sponsors) for considering the Golden Gate Lotus Club.

Thank you to Don, Barry, Sarto, Phil, Dan & Dave for sharing your cars. The crowd really enjoyed seeing these gems up close. Many many comments and questions on their beauty, lines, performance and even more compliments shared.

I think we represented the 50th well with Barry's '65 S2 DHC, Sarto's '66 S3 FHC, Phil's '69 S4-SE FHC, Dan's S3-SE DHC, Don's '70 S4-SE DHC, David's '72 Sprint and my '66 S2 DHC.

Very fun! We'll have to do it again!!!

Cheers,
Kiyoshi

Sarto

The first of Sarto's photos is Barry with trying to explain to the Judges why his headlamps wouldn't come up. Of course the failure for the headlamps to rise gave way to many Elan headlamp Viagra jokes and the laughs ensued!

It's funny to see the same chap in the dark blue jacket looking at Dan's red S3 and my S2 Elan and standing next to David's Sprint. Very photogenic fellow and clearly partial to red Elans!

Nice photos Sarto, thanks for sharing.

Kiyoshi
