North and West of the Lighthouse

PostPost by: CBUEB1771 » Sun Jul 22, 2012 5:05 pm

A bit north and west of the Scituate lighthouse we have a regular car gathering on Saturday evenings. The setting is nowhere near as pleasant as Scituate Harbor, but once in a while something interesting turns up. A S2 Europa with a turbocharged Toyota 1600 twin cam turned up yesterday. The first Lotus I have ever seen at this gathering (yes Gary, it is up to me to remedy that). It turns out this car resides not far from me and in the nearly thirty years I have lived at the same address I had not seen it before. The owner is a heating and plumbing technician and has done all the works himself including programming a Megasquirt engine management system and building his own intercooler. The engine has never been on a dynamometer but that may change soon.

OK Russ I'll bite, what is in the Europa? Looks like an S2 and maybe the renualt motor but hard to see it with all the metal. So did he do fuel injection and no distributor with crank timer? Megasquirt can be built do do about anything you want.

Mark,
Yes, it is an S2 with a Toyota 1600 twin cam mated to a Renault Fuego five speed box. The ignition system is crank triggered. It is probably one of the few S2s regularly driven with a laptop computer in the passenger seat for data logging and on-the-fly tuning.

Thanks Russ,

I have been running a Megasquirt on a TC motor which we installed fuel injection and regularly autocross.
Tuned with E85 and runs great. The Mega is a super adaptable system as we run crank timer, wasted spark and FI with all the needed sensor's

The Toyo A4GE is also a bullet proof motor, must be fun to drive.
