Lotus Elan

At the Lighthouse

PostPost by: garyeanderson » Fri Jul 20, 2012 7:50 am

We had a hot week, I guess you have to expect that in July. most of the week it was in the upper 80's or low 90's and the humidity stepped in early Tuesday morning. The weather broke Wednesday afternoon with some heavy thunder showers and the temps dropped into the 60's and yesterday was a comfortable day in the low 80's and low humidity. A good crowd showed up at the lighthouse of maybe 50 cars, last week someone said it was closer to 60, anyway a couple of new rides showed up so I took some more pictures.

Gary,

Thanks, nice pictures of cars, bikes and scenery. I hope at least some of the people there like your Elan.

I need to get a few things done to my Elan so I can get to events like this in my area, which is north of Detroit.

Wow love the old Mack truck!! Every boy needs a big truck and it looks to be in great condition. Too bad you did not park the Elan next to it for a shot or even better nose to nose.

Thanks for all the great shots!

Hi Bob

It's good to hear things are progressing and you'll soon be on the road with your Elan. As far as people liking it goes, I get some responses but most are "what is it" and "what year", sometimes people will come up and talk about it but they are usually "old" like me and remember the Elan in the day. I think that most of the folks that attend on Thursday evenings know me and we all have respect for what everyone else has, this is the best way I can put it. We all have different ideas of what we like and thank goodness we all have different tastes or we would all be lusting after the same thing. I think that the folks that really appreciate the car are those that see the Elan as something the is in there size. This one picture that says it best. My friends wife was standing next to me watching this and pointed it out while we were talking, it brought a smile to her face and I took about a half a dozen pictures. this is the first photo from the previous page and says a lot about what folks at the lighthouse think...

Great pictures, Gary, and yes I've always gotten a kick out of little kids and LBC's. Should see what they do around a Berkeley!
Thanks again for all your post's. Very interesting stuff!

Hi Gary,

Thanks, I'm getting there with the Elan. I got a major brake problem fixed and hope to get other minor things fixed in a week.

That's a good summary of what people are like at these general car meets. We respect each others' cars and work and the variety of cars is nice. That picture of the kids and their mom looking in the Elan is real nice. I guess an Elan is about as close to being a toy car as there is, so the kids have to check it out.

Gary,
Great image. Are they checking out the Elan or is Beau asleep on the passenger floor?

Beau used to go everywhere, but he's taken to being himself and just doesn't get it that he's not the cute little puppy he once was and dropping 3 loafs at British Car day may have ended his travels to that venue next year. He used to do the same when I would to take him to the lighthouse or harbor, so instead of me picking up after him he can shit his brains out at home where I don't have to do much about it. The seat was out of the car so maybe they were discussing why it only had the one seat, I don't know as I didn't get into a conversation as it would have probably been way over my head, You know I can only about Lotus Elans or maybe toss in an Elite to vary the conversation a bit so I don't appear like a total moron. :)

p.s. the Turbo Toyota Europa looks like a nice ride, I am glad it is not mine.

Thursday July 26th
The day started off mild and the clouds hung in all morning, about 2:30 the sun broke through and it started to warm up and the humidity had risen to the uncomfortable level. The weather folks said heavy thunderstorms by sunset but at 5:30 it looked fine so I went out to the lighthouse expecting a light turnout. I was not wrong either, a few of the locals were there but that was it. Here is the group photo.

Several others showed up and a few of the above people left while I was there.
Bill showed up with the Daimler SP250 and my friend Doug asked to see under the bonnet so I grabbed the camera and took a couple pictures just because he had the 3 duce's

I finally left at sundown after the yacht club fired the cannon to signify that sundown had arrived without any showers or rain.
