Silverstone circuit is going to be busy with different parades:

The Silverstone Classic 2012 plans to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Ferrari F40 supercar with a world record gathering of F40s at the classic racing festival, scheduled for 20-22 July. The largest collection of F40s ever seen in one place is being organised by the Ferrari Owners? Club of Great Britain.
?Our original aim was to get at least 25 of these Ferraris together and, as I have contacted owners, I have been gratified that so many want to be part of the celebration ? so much so that we now have more than 50 F40s registered for the event with more still to come!? said Nigel Chiltern-Hunt, Ferrari Owners? Club of Great Britain. ?A parade of those F40s present is planned for the Sunday and it undoubtedly will be the largest gathering of F40s ever seen anywhere in the world and will certainly beat the club?s own previous record of 40 F40s seen at the Silverstone Classic in 2007.?

I second the 'retro run', we did this last year for the first time (in the Elan) staying over on the Saturday night in a local hotel. Great fun, good value and a nice central parking spot! Will certainly do it again this year.

I'm just about to book Silverstone tickets for all 3 days. I booked accommodation nearby ages ago when I thought Silverstone was going to be the main 50year Elan celebration but, despite the loss of the Elan only races (to spectate not take part), I think I'll keep the booking and make it my big event for the year. However I'm in a quandry as to which type of booking to make. I can do the Club booking, which should see my Elan in the infield display area and possibly an Elan parade lap, or book Retro Run tickets. It seems the cost is similar either way and I'm not sure of the relative benefits of the two options. I've not been to Silverstone Classic before, any advice from those who have?

Get there very early unless you want to join long queues, well before 9 am.

Hi all.
Club Lotus have now put a booking code on their website so as you get an infield pass to park near to the stand, and they also say that their is going to be Elans

racing on the sunday. I had already booked my tickets but rang the agents and have now rebooked and they are sending out the pass as well.

see you there Denis

Retro run was fantastic last year and included a drive around the track on the Sunday, so a chance to drive around the course for those of us who don't want to race (or don't have cars set up for racing). There was also the rally drive down to the old Aston Martin factory where we were made very welcome and shown around the service and repair workshops which are still based there...

Following comments from Steve (Elanfan) concerning meeting up at Castle Coombe and everyone having their own agenda, where he made some pertinent points, I want to canvass opinion here regarding the Classic meet at Silverstone, only some six odd weeks away now.

Currently it is my intention to have a precense on the Club Lotus stand for CLES and which, as at Donnington last year, we could use as a meeting point. However, it is perennially difficult to get such a 'stand' manned all the time due to lack of volunteers to sit around for hours on end when they would far rather be enjoying themselves having a look at all the distracting stuff going on elsewhere. There are some honorable exceptions on here who have stuck their hand up, but nothing like enough to maintain the presence for three whole days.

So, going back to Steve's observations about meeting up and the above, I see four options and would be interested to know what people would feel is best, please:

1. Have a permanently manned stand
2. Have a stand with a visitors book for messages and for arranging to meet
3. Have a stand that is 'open' at certain times during each day
4. Don't bother having any presence at all

Please chip in, even if you are not attending the Classic.

Thanks

Tim

I cannot attend so my views are perhaps worthless but here goes.....

to keep a manned stand open for 3 days when there will perhaps be what a couple of hundred at most Elans present seems a bit hopeful (and a waste of peoples precious time there).

I don't know what is planned for the event but manning a stand when some of the 'attractions' are running seems a bit of an ask.

I'd have thought that a presence when people are arriving would be good to plan parking and give information as to where what and when. Maybe a meet up place for evening events such as beers and entertainment.

Otherwise if possible i'd have the stand manned during what might be regarded as quiet times - if there is such a thing.

My twopenneth

Sounds great - wish I could go.

Combination of 1 & 2 for me. If no one is in, sign in and return later. A nice notice board on the stand to say who is about, when they will ba back, where they are etc.

Happy to help by the way..

Tim, the Notice Board (white board on a easel with a few erasable grease pens) idea works well at LOG over this side of the pond. Allows folks to put up a quick " I'm over here" or "call me at..." type message, or for the organizers to post details on a more inclusive get-together's time & place in the evening. Best wishes for the event, it sounds like a great time.
