Regarding parade laps, I've been in touch with the organisers about this for several months and we've been promised an all-Elan parade lap session. At this stage I'm unsure whether it'll be on Saturday or Sunday and there's still a chance we might be able to get on track on both days. Track access will be from a dedicated Elan parking area near Woodcote where Club Lotus and all the other Lotus clubs will be situated. Should make for an unforgettable spectacle.

Provisional entries are coming in steadily for the Elan race and we have some superb cars already. There's still plenty of room for more so if you're interested either post here or email me at [email protected]

The race will be run by the HSCC and although regulations have yet to be finalised it's likely they'll be a combination of the current HSCC Historic Road Sports regs and FIA Appendix 'K' (as was suggested in an earlier post).

Essentially we'll be welcoming entries from any race-prepared Elan and the emphasis will be on allowing cars in (especially interesting and significant ones) rather than excluding them. We expect to have a number of trophies to reflect the different classes, hopefully presented by Hazel or Clive Chapman. We're also intending to give every entrant a commemorative medal.

We're still working on other attractions to make this weekend a memorable one to celebrate the 50th. Details to follow over the coming weeks.

Alan

Christian,
The web site does state that the list of races is yet to be finalised and I know that Tim Wilkes is working hard on organising it for the Elan race. I'm sure that there will be an announcement in the next few weeks.

Reading in yesterdays Autosport it states that the Classic Sports Car Club will be holding 2 races for Elans only at Brands Hatch and Donnington and that the HSCC are looking into the possiobility of an Elan only race but no date has been set

Okay chaps, quick update as of this morning.

We have decided not to run an Elan-only race at the Silverstone Classic w/e and to concentrate instead on doing so at Brands Hatch during the Lotus Festival in August and another at Donington in September.

A number of us have been beavering away to attract enough Elans to nearly fill the grid at Silverstone (58 places!). As of last night we had around 25 definites and some 10 possibles out of a total list of 70 Elan racers we knew of. The grid was very expensive to buy and the entry price could only be attractive if we managed to get closer to 50 competing cars. We did consider asking LoCorts and Europas to make up numbers. Those of us in discussion with Goose, the Classic w/e organizers ultimately felt that it was not our role to press-gang owners to participate and that the fun of the event should be enough to attract entries.

We have also been most encouraged by the enthusiasm of the CSCC to run the Brands and Donington races, however many Elans wanted to turn out. So whilst it is a shame that we shall not have the race during our ongoing 50th celebrations at Silverstone Classic, we very much look forward to having fun with the races and other attractions of the Lotus Festival and the race at Donington too.

Tim

PS For those of you who expressed interest in the race at Silverstone, thank you and we shall be writing to you individually

Hi,
I understand that Silverstone all Elan race is over.
Anyway, the Silverstone race was so close from Le Mans Classic event that they worried about having a car ready again 2 weeks later!
Now you are planning something in august at Brands Hatch for the Lotus Festival OR/AND(?) donington in September ...
Can you be a bit precise, please, and state on the categories of cars, dates etc...
I can't speak to the french drivers that I know without accurate infos...
Christian.

Hi Christian

This is all just starting to come together now. Besides, we should really start a new thread to cover these two races.

Hi Tim...

Carol and I are about to book a Hotel for the Silverstone classic. Arriving there Sat' approx mid day. Probably with a few other Scottish members of CL on board. Is there anything we should know regarding Tickets? Parking up? Anything going on in the evening(s)? Any hotels set up for group bookings? Do we just turn up on the Sat'? Will we have parking set aside? Do we need or will we have special passes? There does not appear to be any info regarding this event on the CL website. (sorry if I have missed it!)

Anything I can do from up here to help?

Using this thread as a Com's method as the answers could effect everyone going?

As I said; "If you google retrorun you`ll find for a nominal price, ?119 last year, you get entry for 2 people for 3 days, infield parking, a tulip run around the Cotswolds or wherever, and a couple of parade laps of Silverstone. Great value especially with the Friday and Saturday night`s concerts thrown in. We`ve done it for years."

Alex, the concerts in the evenings incude Mike and the Mechanics, though we won`t need the Mechanics, there`s also Adam and the Ants and others. Included in the Retrorun are parade laps. Here`s a pic. of our daughter driving the Elan, though she`s photoshopped a more glamorous pic. of herself in the mirror. She`s still looking for a bloke, possibly Greek, possibly with a white Elan.

Bit of confusion over the costs now sorted via a tel' call to the ticket company

We are going to book ticket and ''boarding pass'' (car entry) for Carol and I for the Sat and Sunday. I thought I needed 1 for each of us but person on end of phone said 1 ticket for two days and two people in car = approx ?80 .00 We will book that. You have until end of March to take advantage of ''early bird'' rate.

Staying Sat' and Sunday nights @ the Holiday Inn just off Junction 15 M1. ? 150.00 for two nights double or twin room. Nice hotel with free secure parking etc. We might taxi back to hotel Sat night depending on what's going on and how security looks. Hotel is approx 10mls from circuit...

Is anyone paying the cost asked for the Snooze box?? Hmmmm!

We should get there approx mid day on the Sat' ... Driving down from overnight Hotel just South of Stafford.

Looking forward to it now. :D
