Attached is a photo lifted from the latest issue of Australian Muscle Car Magazine (apologies for any copyright issues). The driver is Trevor Hine, the circuit is Wanaroo near Perth , Western Australia.
The caption is "Trevor Hine's Lotus Elan sprung the odd surprise and often terrorised the bigger cars when their tyres went off..."
I love the spoiler and what appears to be a soft-top!!

great pic Evan, appears to be a S1 or S2 and indeed a softtop (unsure what is hanging under the car though? ) Any idea whose car it is and if still around? Tony W this is your part of the world, I know of a 26R in Perth and yours but that is all - any others?

Nothing like making a reply more than a year later but here it goes.
This car was owned and driven by Trevor Hine ( a professional engine builder in Perth), The car is a very early RHD S1.
It originally ran with a steel twin cam and evolved into running a serious BDG and Japanese box.
It ran with a soft top for many years and eventually gained a removable hardtop concurrent with the switch to BDG.
It was driven very hard every single time out and it was road registered as well.
It held some sort of record for consecutive wins in 1970's and 1980's, mostly against V8's.
This car is largely responsible for why I have two Elans today.
Over the years at least 5 Elans raced at Wanneroo in Western Australia. 26R S1 (Rhodes, Grant), 26RS2 (Trowell), S1 (Stubber, Hine), S2 (Hall), S2 (Wookey).

Very nice pics. Hummm serious power with a BDG!
An all steel twink is not bad either.
But the BDG block is in alloy and lighter...
Lots of money involved!
