The cam cover appears to have been heavily modified to accept a cam belt maybe?

I think John's referering to the first and last picture where the cam cover area over the chain appears to be taller and wider than stock.

Oh & that car could well be the Elite, albeit with an Elan type bonnet/hood opening method.

To contribute this old photo of my Elan, now retired from racing. A QED motor installed in 1999.

Not in the engine bay anymore, but here is the Vegantune motor, built 1977, that the QED motor replaced.

I've always liked this thread and have often referred to it. And last week I got a fancy new mobile/cell phone with more pixels than my "good" camera, so I figured I could test it and add to this thread.

My engine compartment is nothing to write home about, it's a long way from factory standard and never going to win a concours. But I think it's reasonably tidy. The previous owner of the car did the hard part of the layout during a body-off rebuild, fusebox, solenoid, loom, etc. I think he did a good job, without going nuts. I have been slowly finishing up, brake fluid level switch, powder coated cam cover, loom braiding, etc.

While tracking down an electrical problem I found myself switching to Hella fused relays. They're actually pretty nice.

That is a very nice engine bay. I wish mine looked that good. What did you use to close the gap under the radiator and what material did you use to cover the main wiring harness?

The under radiator blanking plate was from Sue Miller. From her latest catalogue, posted by Phil (pharriso), she has:

Mine is fibreglass, purchased early last year, apparently before she had the millboard versions. It was 15.00 GBP.

I carried it back in my hand luggage after a visit to her Aladdin's Cave when I was over there. It has pre-drilled holes so that it can be screwed into the bodywork, but they are pretty much impossible to get to and it's a good, tight fit. So it's just sitting there, snapped in place under the radiator. Hard to describe.

The braided loom cover was recommended by Greg (gjz30075) and is from Jegs (http://www.jegs.com). Search for Flexbraid. It's expensive but it looks much better than the convoluted plastic stuff and you don't need much of it. At least, that was my justification!

Thanks for all of the additional information. I should set up an account with Sue Miller because she seems to have some parts that I haven't seen anywhere else. It's almost time to park the Elan for winter and I'll get some work done in the engine bay.
