Have You a Photo of Your Elan in the 60s/70s?

Here is my 64 S1 in 1972 with the previous owner and as it is now. Virtually unchanged except for the wheels and the original wheels will be going back on soon.

Sorry, it's not my Elan but it is my first Lotus. It's my 72 Europa in front of my apartment. That's still my friend Don Piper next to it. This pic was in 1973.

Well, this is almost relevant:
Picture of my (kind of) Elan from 1981 (I think). Pictured is my friend and the last owner. I'm pretty sure this is the day he bought it. He got it back together for a couple years and its been parked since. Oh, and that's the custom trailer.

I noticed something I think is odd in the other picture...anyone else see it?

This is my S4, about 3 years old.

It was white when I bought it but cracks near boot hinges etc showed up as black lines so I decided to have the car resprayed black. I then found out that dirt in the cracks is nowhere near black so showed up just as badly!

Its white again now and I live with the few cracks that have appeared. The bare shell respray was done in 1987 with paint that I understood contained a lot of plasticiser.

For the first time I see the family resemblance. Perhaps you should wear that wig more often.

See you tomorrow.

The original owner of our Elan was Henry Austin Clark, Jr. He also owned the Long Island Auto Musuem and was a partner in the Bridgehampton Race Track. He bought the Elan for his son, Jim. The above picture is a postcard of our Elan from his time owning it when it was on display at the Musuem. We have the hardtop (just trying to find another front clamp and it will be complete).

This is a bad very old joke - a man was halfway across a pedestrian crossing when a van screams round a corner and screeches to a stop in front of the crossing , the vans long whippy aerial whips forward and lops off the pedestrians arm. The pedestrian is rushed to hospital where a doctor looks at him and says 'thats the worst case of van aerial disease I've ever seen'.

Did you buy this car in MA a couple of years ago? I saw a similar car in the final stages of restoration & the then owner showed me a postcard of the car - looks very very similar....

Here's a copy of the post card - http://www.ebay.com/itm/1966-LOTUS-ELAN-ROADSTER-SOUTHAMPTON-NEW-YORK-OLD-CARS-VINTAGE-POSTCARD-/311713556921?hash=item48939369b9:g:wrsAAOSwLF1X9sgp

This is my only photo of my Elan in its original BRG, taken in 1969. I have a number of slide scans from the '70's when the car was red and usually in various stages of disrepair.

Note - the post card was published in 1968.

No, we bought it this year. I have the records of previous owners and at one time it was in Mass. The "second owner" lived in Cambridge. I'm counting Austin Clark and then his son Jim as the first owner even though I have the title transfer from Austin to Jim. According the the author of a book about that era on Long Island that wrote about Austin Clark and Bridgehamption, Austin just bought the car for Jim. I'm working through that author to get in touch with the family to learn more.

Here is the back of that post card, mailed in 1994:
