Castle Combe 29/5 and Autojumble

Apart from seeing all the superb cars and watching various Lotus screech around the track, one of the great pleasures of Combe was having a good ol' root through boxes of autojumble. I know ebay has killed off a lot of this (as I use that site too!) but was wondering whether a few on here would like to try to resurrect it? How about filling you boot with your unwanted parts and bringing them along to sell.

I think it helps the day, brings in more visitors, make it more interesting and always brings people together to chat/meet and generally helps people with that elusive misssing item for their restoration. So how about it chaps ....

I would suggest that if a few of us can agree to meet in one place so it's altogether maybe this could become a regular feature at Combe once again!

How about using the grassed area just behind the timber rails of the tarmac'd area where the 6's, 7's and 11's tend to park up and display.

Please can you add a post if you intend to bring some stuff - it can only help with the attendance, presence of buyers etc.

Cheers all

I won't be there but I hope the resurrection takes off. It was a feature of the Club Lotus Track Day that I enjoyed & have missed in recent years.
Have you thought of mentioning this to Alan Morgan?

Cheers

I have never missed a Castle Combe meeting in 30 years and I entirely agree that one of the main attractions up to perhaps 10 years ago was the chance to pick up a few parts at the various autojumble stands, in recent years it has become almost non-existent.

As mentioned Ebay is possibly one reason for this but then again if you go to one of the numerous autojumble and classic car events there are bits for every classic car you could think of with the strange exception of Lotus.

My local event in Enfield used to have a stand for Club Lotus, yet I haven't seen that for the best part of 10 years, seem to be less and less classic Lotuses around that people are prepared to show, parts are even more elusive.

I have sold many parts at Castle Combe over the years but I like many have decided to hoard my stock as I may need them one day, with the restoration of two +2's on the go I am now looking for many bits that I sold 25 years ago!!!!

I would love to see a resurrection of the sellers and if possible I will dig out some parts this year and bring them along, although if I bring the Essex Esprit Turbo they are going to have to be small items only but will see what I can do.

You must be joking DJ, he should be the last person to mention it to. Unless you want to be charged ?95 as soon as you get a table out of your boot, a la Malvern! Why do you think there were no autojumblers there? Not rocket science.

Oh dear, my dream of "the perfect World" shattered once again.
Perhaps the "Organisers" put the "mockers" on the Jumblers back then?

Exits "Stage Left" back into reality

Although sellers are few and far between they still exist, indeed I had many parts displayed 3 years ago and Alan Morgan came up for a chat, certainly no mention of a potential fee for sellers and as far as I am aware no-one else has been approached with that in mind.

However, that is not to say that if a professional seller was to turn up with an awning they may be charged, perhaps it is down to how they perceive you.

A guy from Cardiff turns up almost every year but I know he said last year he didn't think he would bother, now has several parts on Ebay I notice. I think it is down to demand as much as anything and the Ebay culture, those that are looking for parts are a small percentage of what they used to be and most know that a bargain is to be had on Ebay. Case in point, I just purchased a servicable +2 petrol tank for 99p and a +2 rear screen for ?5.50 from Ebay, you don't get that from autojumbles.

Even though sellers are dwindling I still hope they persevere, I usually find something to buy and as said I will try to bring a few parts myself.

I''m the very guy from Cardiff!

I would have hoped there might have been a little better response but I guess it is still early yet. I'm not sure now whether it is worth the effort or not?

Cheers

Hi mate, sorry I didn't recognise you, not good on names either.

I assume it is you on Ebay with several parts for sale currently?

See you at Combe, we can have our own little gathering of parts sellers, must be a couple of others wishing to join in.

Cheers
