Contacting The Elan Factory

PostPost by: John Larkin » Fri Oct 02, 2009 10:03 am

I have been unable to get a reply from Steve at The Elan Factory since the 2nd of August. Has anybody else been experiencing a similar problem? Is he still in business?

The Elan Factory is in business. I have been corresponding with him on a collection of bits for my +2 over the last six weeks. He has been both very busy and was out with illness for a bit a few weeks ago. The correspondence has been slow but functional nonetheless.

John,
Steve may also be having some problems with his email service. In my last round with Steve it became clear that he was waiting for a response from me to an email I never received.

Are you telking about the Elan Factory in Melbourne? I purchased some items from them about 3 weeks ago - there was only one person there on the day I phoned but they're definitely there, albeit very busy...

Never having been there I am not sure. However the Elan Factory web site gives the location as Boronia Heights, just outside of Brisbane. A bit of a drive from Melbourne.

Ooops! Time to correct my own post. I Googled on the post code and I now believe that the correct location is near Melbourne after all. There is also a Boronia Heights near Brisbane. Another similarity between the Australia and the US; many cities and towns with the same name but in different states/counties, whatever. We all must have run out of imagination in the penal colonies.

Steve Taylor runs The Elan Factory from 5 Marong Crt, Boronia Heights, Victoria, Australia 3155. This is about 25-30 kilometres east of the city of Melbourne. He specialises in parts for the early Elan, Elan +2, Esprit, Twin Cam etc and repairs and maintenance. Many parts are designed in house and manufactured to extremely high standards. A very honest and very knowledge  able specialist and one of the very few you people you can trust to do a good job. That's why he is busy! June 2010. Website is worth a visit if you are after high quality and hard to get parts.

Steve Taylor is a knowledgeable and competent guy - but if you get on his wrong side he can be hard to deal with. This is a disease that seems to afflict many of the Lotus usual suppliers after a few years ( eg Mr Wilkins, and Rex Coliver who was the Lotus supply specialist in Melbourne before he retired and Steve filled the market gap). I cant say I blame them as dealing with the Lotus parts consumers (like me!!!) cant be easy

After more than 15 years working with him and buying from him he appears to have disagreed with me on some design and component decisions I have made on the Lotus 912 engine I am slowly building for my Esprit and as a result appears reluctant to supply me with any Lotus parts curently, His choice and I now buy from other suppliers.

I have been reluctant to write this and have been a promoter of the Elan factory over the years but I feel I need to at least state the facts given the topic

cheers

Nothing but praise for Steve & have never found him difficult in fact the opposite.
I can imagine it must be difficult to earn a living selling Lotus stuff when lots of people myself included can & do suck up his knowledge on the Marque & purchase a $10 oil filter. That must be a chore.
I have bought many parts from him always found him co-operative & his parts both original & remanufactured were of the highest standard. He is still there but his ISP provider in conjunction with the evil empire "Telstra" have let him down.

Hello,
I had to contact The Elan Factory. It took me over 24 hours but I finally managed to have the phone line ring and someone answer.
I do now know the details but the bottom line is that the phone number is still the one I found under "the Elan Factory" in some on-line register but the company is now Lotus Marques http://lotusmarques.com/index.php.
