Gary has got it spot on. What is now Lemonia was formerly Pub Lotus. I have a photo of the exterior of Pub Lotus taken when I visited back in 1971. It's not very exciting from the outside, but I will digitize it and post it.

YES! that's one of the Photo's that's been eluding us all this time; great, looking forward to it.
Maybe you can e-mail it to me also?

Cheers

Here's the photo of Pub Lotus taken in September of 1971. From the outside it did not look very inviting. Unfortunately I do not have any photos of the interior, but it was very kitschy. The tables were made from aluminum wheels and the carpeting had tire treads crossing it (Pirelli, if I recall correctly.) There was a shift lever for the tap beer which could dispense one of four beers depending upon which "gear" you threw it into. Good times.

Thanks for posting that picture Herb. A very spartan facade compared to its current look!

Yes, that photo reminds me of my dim & distant memory of the Pub; quite uninspiring.
Was the 4 gear lever pump a reality or fable?
In a country that is now only slowly accepting hot & cold mixer water mixer taps in bathrooms & kitchens it is hard for me to believe that a Pub way back then was permitted by the brewery to serve a Harp Lager from the same spout that previously poured a drought Guinness.

Cheers
John

My memories are a bit dim also -- it was 40 years ago and I can't remember what I had for breakfast yesterday.

I remember the shifter, but I don't remember if there was a single spigot or four individual spigots. That would eliminate the mixing of different brews, but it would violate Chapman's "add lightness" decree.

Came across this by accident - general curiosity. Pub Lotus existed from 1970-1978/9 at 89 Regent's Park Road . I remember the seats and wheel tables - but nobody has mentioned the thre-patterned carpet. I know this because I worked there at weekends from 1971-6. Beers were selected by gear lever: 1st - Worthington E, 2nd Charringtons Bitter, 3rd - Lager (Carling Black Label, if memory serves, and 4th - Guinness. The answer to the hilarious question: what happens if you put it in reverse? depended entirely on my mood..Hope this helps on some of the points raised.

See my post today - but 4 separate spigots, otherwise the beers would be undrinkable!
