Perhaps I am an optimist? :P

I thought the show was good with a car park full of Loti though mainly the newer models. Agreed not so good for the spare parts but surely that is what the Lotus Parts Fair is for? There were good displays of plenty of old Loti from the Historic Register, LDC and Team Lotus. There were some good tool bargins if you had a good dig through all the tat, I got an imperial set of stubby spanners. I also purchased a Luke FIA racing harness for a very competitive price :D

It was good to meet up with Tim and Chris for a chat. See you again in July at Classic Le Mans.

- no , honestly, the show wasn't bad at all, and you found what you expected. It is a fact that focus is moved from old to new, which is natural. The "pearl" to me was the ex. John Miles 26R at Kel-sport. The car is under completion, and what fitted with a really nice (!!) safety-cage. Finally you seem to be a lot safer than before, racing an Elan......- and it was FIA-legal as well.
The golden +2 as well as the bright yellow +2 would not feel wrong in my garage either, if I only had the money....

I was there on Sat' and had a good day. Met John P and had a old good chat. Also met Chris H. Sorry I did not get back to say bye. I put some bits on the club table and shifted them quite nicely. Also met up with loads of old boys I have met over the years. I to liked the 26r on the Kel stand. The cage looks a great job.

Mark K, my friend Gregg went back on the Sunday and he mentioned he has been talking to a guy who had a problem with his exhaust, so it must have been you.

I thought it was a good show. It was good to meet some of you and have a natter. I bought a brake master cylinder for a good price and ordered a new front caliper. My pal bought a parts list and workshop manual for his excel for £5 ! Some great cars to lust after, all in all I enjoyed it. I met Don at Chrisneils after talking to him on the phone over the last six years. He told me it was getting harder and harder to obtain parts for elans. Glad I am just about finished!

Yes mike that was me. Took the exhaust off just to fine not only the centre pipe too badly bant to repair, but all the welds have given way on the back box. Needed a lump hammer to get off so...........new exhaust for me. Would like to fit a mild steel one this time, sue miller does not have them, any idea who has (for a sprint by the way)

cheers
Mark

pd Greg promised me a couplke of bits if he can find them.

... Hi everybody !
First time at Donington , and despite all the bad comments on the others british forums , What a shock!
Lost in the countryside , so many Lotus cars at the same time !
All the main parts dealers only know thru their website at the same place ...
And the formula 1 museum ! I only wish we had the same somewhere in France ...
Yes , not to much on oldies appart the clubs show (but all the cars were interresting and show condition), no real bargains , E-bay kill them all !?! What about the official representation of the make and the actual range ?Yes the classic team but only two F1 cars ... but only the best !
But maybe , it's our fault , we were not enough with our Elan's ...
One year, sure , I will go across with "Old English White".
Meet Cliveboy , a real enthousiast , with nice solutions for our cars , very kind with everybody and , when discovering "my" identity , turning hilarious !
I saw Mark 030358 being too optimist with the ground clerance of his wonderfull Sprint : "bravo , elle est sublime !" ... try to say some words to help him with the situation ... Thank you for your comment in your previous message.
At the meeting point , only peoples having some rest , leave a message with my mobile number but ... no phone call.
Next year , why not install a board ?, it will be easier to write a message and give a rendez-vous ...
Christian.

Mark,
Have you tried Paul Matty's. I changed from the twin S4 box to the single sprint one. It is stainless but perhaps he does normal ones. Bit of a bummer when you damage the beloved motor. :(

Mike, Out of interest the stainless one you bought from matty was the tube bore reduced when it entered the back of the box? My old one was ie from the connection to the intermediate pipe to the back of the box two different sizes were used, Can you remember? Anyway me and my mate will probably be at your next saturday meet, see you there perhaps?

Christian, glad to see you got back home ok. Thanks for the comments about the car 8) and sorry I did not know who you were earlier in the day. If I was a bit quiet I was sulking about the exhaust damage

If you go next year drop me a line

Mark,

My silencer from Matty went straight on the middle pipe, no bother. I had to extend it though as the S4 twin box was longer. Lucky I kept a piece of the pipe in the shed.

Re: Lotus meet, we dont tend to go. We tend to go on a non Lotus Pub meet up on Parbold Hill. Any cars, any bikes, no rules. Do some drives, organise some runs. Last Wed' of the month.

Did Duns last year with 2 Tina's and an E type.

I was there on Saturday & Sunday but was quite busy helping with the organisation of the Lotus Festival at the Hockenheim "Jim Clark Revival"
It was great meeting some of you guys but because we all had our own agendas the meetings were always too brief. I was lucky enough to be able to get to chat with Ron Hickman, Clive Chapman, his mother, BettyHill & Bob Dance; quite memorable.
I thought the LDC stand had a good gimmick with "We've gone Bananas"; all of the cars yellow & a free banana for each stand visitor.
I loved that old Elite racer above everything else, left me pining for the one I once had.
The table I picked out for LotusElan.net seemed to be popular for everyone needing a sit down but it would have been difficult to reserve it for just us few. I agree that some sort of pin board would be more suitable than the note book. Perhaps some of the local guys can arrange something for the next time.
Was dissapinted to find out that Sue Miller no longer has any original S4 door seal material, I'll never get my doors to close properly (without major surgury).
Saw a super white S4 out in the car park & told the owner about LotusElan.net. There was also a very tidy blue Europa S2 with a twin cam engine; on a trailer for sale at 7000 GBP
Cheers
John
