Lotus Elan

Newish - '63 S1

PostPost by: Wolfman » Sat Jun 24, 2023 6:01 am

Hi all,

Been lurking for a while posting a couple of times, but waited until things were official before an intro...

I'm the co-owner/custodian of my dad's '63 Series 1 Elan, #0098. It's been in the family since we towed it home from Christopher Neil in 1978 and sat waiting to be attended to until being thoroughly restored by him around 2003. After he passed away in 2020 we brought the Elan (and his S2 Seven) over to Los Angeles late last year and have recently finished the CA registration process so it's now official!

Pictures below of him enjoying it a few years back and me showing it off at the local cars & coffee event Supercar Sunday in Woodland Hills in the SFV. It's been great to see the worldwide Elan community here and looking forward to the chat, seeing local Elans, and also hoping that some folks 'back home' recognize the Elan and see where it is now.

Welcome, a lovely looking S1.
Happy memories of wandering down the rows of Elans at Christopher Neils in the early 80s.
And regular round trips of 60 miles to the parts department!

What a beautiful Elan!! If you have not yet joined Golden Gate Lotus Club, you ought to do so...a terrific bunch with lots of admiration for the old Elans.

Welcome Wolfman!

Beautiful car!

Around 8 years ago I sold an 'Essex blue' Turbo Esprit to a gent in Woodland hills. I wonder if it's still there?

Thanks all…I know how much work, time, and dedication went into it

Veg - always loved that livery on the Esprit, sadly haven’t seen it around these parts though.

Just to clarify, mine wasn't one of the Essex edition cars, just the same shade of blue without the red and silver stripes and it had the tan interiour that most Turbos had. But I did once consider having a local auto-wrap & graphics specialist create the stripes for it!

Welcome Wolfman,

Beautiful S1 Elan, so glad it has remained in your family. If you are interested, check out the SoCal Chapter of the Golden Gate Lotus Club. Some of the nicest folks you'll ever meet.
