Hello from Sussex, UK

Hi All

Had my first Elan way back in 1978. Red over white S4 Sprint. In 2000, a lovely lagoon blue over white ..where the long-time owner had regrettably used cheap valves in the head presumably, as impossible as it is to rationalise, to save a few pounds ...and cost me thousands when one inevitably failed. Then, 2.5 years ago, the addition of the current S4 Sprint...in red over white.

Not quite as lithe as i was in '78 of course!

Cheers
Rob

It shares the garage with a VX220T and one of the last Honda NSXs, an older TJ Jeep, and a few 'bikes.

Hi Rob, not sure which Sussex you are in but I live in West Sussex near Chichester and my car is a regency red S4 dhc that I did a total restoration on over 2 years. Sadly haven't used my car much this year as all the classic car meetings were cancelled. Welcome back to the Elan world. Regards, William.

Hi William

You're just down the road from me, I live in Patching, a village about 4 miles east of Arundel.

Cheers
Rob

Hi Rob, welcome back to Elan ownership and joining probably the best Elan forum. :D

"Sadly haven't used my car much this year as all the classic car meetings were cancelled."

That is a pity. I use mine as a second car all year round. About 2000 miles since the start of lockdown. Empty roads and no police - WEEHHEEEEE :D :D

Hi Rob,

If you're interested maybe we could meet up one day as we both live nearby and compare cars and notes. Social distancing of course!

Regards, William

Chris Thorpe was organising local events prior to lockdown and can be reached via:

I'm not sure if they require Club Lotus membership or not. I would doubt it for a pub meeting, but probably for the annual Goodwood circuit day.

You're surrounded Rob! I'm in Barnham, and another forum owner is in Hanaker. When the virus retreats we'll have to have a jamboree!

An identical car to yours, XDD 230J compared to your 481, usually comes to Littlehampton in July with the Sussex Lotus Club (I know his name but he's not forum) and used to be at Goodwood Revival frequently.

Ha! That's excellent... I've only missed one revival since the first, but never seen that Elan.

Thanks for the warm welcome. ...

Here's my prior Elan, which I owned in the early 2000's...it would have been to the Revival a couple of times. In fact the cylinder head damage that I mentioned previously happened on Duncton Hill on the way to Goodwood. nearly twenty years and i still feel 'emotional' about the PO using the wrong parts. Of course he may have been completely oblivious to it, if the work was done by a garage!
