I would like to quickly introduce myself and ask some info on my new Elan.
As a longtime enthusiast/collector and racer that is quickly approaching his 60th year on this Planet, just recently I had the opportunity to acquire an early 26 that has been extensively modified and raced here in Italy in 26R (or GTS) form, and that I do intend to race in 2020, therefore I am very pleased to have found this group where it looks there is a lot of knowledge about those cars. The chassis no. is 26/3624. The car arrived in our country in the ?80 from UK, I have a copy of the old registration document that says it was registered with the licence plate FJF 647B and it belonged to Mrs.Amanda Susan Hadfield, Diseworth, Derby, and then to Mr.Barry Heitman, Willington, Derby. Could be that Mrs.Amanda is the wife (or sister) of Simon Hadfield? I?ll be very interested to hear if any of the members has info on this car during its early UK life. I do enclose a picture of the chassis plate (it isn?t missing a lower part where there are written some other info?).
Kind regards,
mbracing

Hi Nic
Do you have a similar one? I mostly raced with Porsches all my racing life, both modern and historic, and I extensively raced a Cortina Lotus about 10 yrs ago, winning the FIA Historic Italian Championship overall. I raced an Elan only a couple of times many years ago and I look forward to next season. I might be do some racing also abroad, let?s see. In which series do you race?
Regards

I'm afraid it won't be ready for the 2020 season now... I'm planning to enlist a '65 S2 GTS in period F events to play with the buddies (E-types, MGB, Austin Healey...) and test the car more than anything, but I have no experience really. Car is still in bits, some of them very old and worn, and I am planning to build a new engine for it as it is the part I like best. Venues would be Asave events in France and some Peter Auto ones (which includes Monza but a bit fast for an elan I'm afraid), Dijon, Castellet, Spa... The idea is to go by Pierre de Coubertin's motto : what matters is not to win but to participate... and have fun. Let me know if you come over.
