Back on the Road

PostPost by: Peter S2 » Thu Oct 25, 2018 11:13 am

I?ve just returned a 1965 Elan S2 to the road after an absence of 35 years, last tax 1983.
Although owned for 13 years, it?s the last 2 years since being made redundant that work as progressed.
Wouldn?t have been possible without this site, text and photos especially contributors like Gary Anderson, but thank you to all.
Done 1000 miles in last 10 weeks but haven?t completed the interior, so will post question on interior section.

Many thanks
Regards
Pete

Looks fantastic and original, Peter, great job. Could we know the chassis number, please?

Where do you find all the trim bits, like the bottom edge of the dash, or do you fake them like the rest of us?

Hi

The dash I brought from a Lotus supplier at Donnington a few years back. One of there rejects, didn't
notice the problems until a few years later when I removed the cling film. Rest of the trim, crashpad etc,
from Type 26 register and ebay.

Thanks Pete, I didn't realise Type 26 register was still operational. I met the two prime characters, Tim Mees and Charles Giles at Goodwood Revival many years ago though Mees, unfortunately, died not long after.

I'm interested in your plate number to see whether you have a transitional S1/2 like mine as that affects several trim details and even transmission bolt hole spacing, which you need to know about. Type 26 Reg lists the numbers where they believe changes took place so you ought to look in there if your number is below 5000.

Best wishes
Meg
