New to the Elan

Hi Folks,,

Just saying Hello as advised by the Forum Etiquette

Have just bought a 71 S4 Sprint that is in need of some TLC, I'll start a thread on that in the appropriate place, and joined the Forum a couple of days ago after reading Tim's great Lotus Elan Sprint site.

Have been around cars all my life, my dad having raced, hillclimbed and rallied VW Beetles back in the 50's & 60s. I started my own motorsport career back in the 70's by the then usual route of navigating on road rallies, before getting my first competition car in 1982, a MG Midget with a Fiat Twin Cam shoehorned into it !

I've mainly driven in hillclimbs and sprints in both sports cars and single seaters, before getting into Classic machinery in the early 2000s. Since then I've had a hot 67 Alfa Giulia Sprint GT, followed by a Lancia Fulvia HF 1600, which I used in Classic road rallies, before getting bitten by the Porsche bug with a 71 911 in ST rally guise and then a Datsun 240Z, before going back to the 911s with a tweeked 3.0L RS Rep.

So looking forward to getting into Elans and from looking on this forum there appears to be a lot of great advice freely given

Cheers

Mike - welcome to the forum!

Please post pictures of your Sprint and some of the other fascinating cars you've had particularly the Alfa and Lancia.

Fabulous! Thanks. I go weak at the knees for early 911's with ducktails and sidewinders. The Alfa and Lancia look great too...the Sprint doesn't look half bad either :-)

A few years ago Casalunge (whom occasionally posts on here) bought a couple of early S4/Sprints from Northern Ireland.

If you have a moment to spare why not put your Elan on the register?

Hi Mike,
I'm sure there are not many elan's still floating around N Ireland. I had an Mk1 Escort that I did the Craigantlet Hillclimb back in 1974, I think it was 2 years old at the time ;-).
I later bought an S4DHC reg No.3777VZ and sold it around 1978. Never heard or saw the car again. It was a guy around Bangor/DDee area that bought it. I went on to buy a white Europa (Mistake) CIJ 6116
Please let me know if it ever turns up. It was painted in Black & Cream sprint design colours.
I'm back with an S4 DHC today... the fun continues in the Navy and Cream car

Good to hear from you

Funny, I just heard of a S4 DHC project, which happens to be in North Down today! Don?t know any details as to whether it?s a local car, but will inquire.

Definitely, a timely post!
