It's taken nearly 30 years to get my hands on one.

I started rallying 30 years ago (in Nov this year) when I was 17 and at the time was working part-time in a Lotus specialist shop in Florida while at college. I fell in love with Elans but had no time or money for 'toy cars' while 'serious' rally cars needed to be built and kept running.

I went through more than a few Escorts including a GpA 4WD beast, spent a couple events in a Motorsport Elise then got into historics with a Mk2 Escort.

For the past ten years I've been cruising classifieds in UK and USA for an Elan 'deal' to use as a base for a historic rally car. I'm adamant that any car I own will have a rollcage and be properly thrashed; I sold one of the five Alan Mann Escorts last year because there is no room in my garage for museum pieces or precious relics.

So a couple weeks ago an S2 26R project came up for sale at a reasonable price with much of the hard work and parts gathering already done so I sent payment to the vendor and am awaiting collection arrangements.

I'm hoping this forum has the patience for a bunch of stupid questions, hopefully the answers will get me to the end result of an S2 in 26R spec with FIA HTP in the not too distant future.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome. Lots of good info here, I would like to talk to you about MK1 escorts. I also own a Mk1 Escort, They are pretty rare in the US (california) see pic of the Good the Bad and the Ugly!
