It wasn't just the Lotus Cortina and Twink that had them Phil.....they were also fitted to some Vanden-Plas 4 litre (like Austin Westminster), some Mk 2 Jags / S Types, the Jensen Healey and a version of the Land Rover that was exported to the USA !!

They are a bit dominant in the engine bay, and on the Escort at least, it disguises the fact that the engine is installed at an angle to fit! It was also responsible for the Lotus script being moved from the cam cover sides to the front of the cam cover. This early Mk2 Lotus Cortina (Feb '67) press photo shows that the Lotus identification is a bit lost with the original cam cover.
