Hello to all from a new Elan owner. A return to Elan ownership after 30 years away! Previously owned 1967 S3 Coupe S/E reg 111 ERY and re-registered GEY xxxE (I can't remember all of the registration) which I sold in 1983 when I moved abroad. I have just purchased a 1966 S3 Coupe which is in reasonable condition. Has a new chassis and a seemingly good engine but will need a new interior and a repaint (plus all the other problems yet to come to light!!) :D

Welcome back! I too rejoined the Elan world, two years ago, after a 30 year hiatus.

They're as alluring as ever and even more fun to own because:
- They're much rarer and much more engaging to drive than modern stuff.
- They're not your daily driver (?) so they don't have to start tomorrow morning and get you to work.
- This forum allows you to learn so much more about them than you ever could back in the day.

Yes it'll make a difference not being a daily driver to get me to work

Hi Englishman,

I recall you from the Lotus 7 (Caterham) forum. I'm pleased that you too have gone for a proper Lotus!

This is a great forum, proper enthusiasts. I got fed up with the bitching and ego's on Blatchat long before my Caterham

Hi Jono
I ve still got my Caterham 7 and I'm sort of hoping funds will allow me to keep it along with my newly acquired Elan. It got bent in a rather unpleasant encounter with a tyre wall at Anglesey in a sprint last October, but I'm now approaching the end of the rebuild. I 'll start on some jobs on the Elan this winter (then I must resist the temptation to put the Elan up a hillclimb or sprint....)

Hi Malcolm

Great to see you have an Elan.

Just joined the site and made a welcome post myself after buying a Plus2 Elan.
Selling my Caterham as my ankylosing spondylitis is making it difficult.

Did you get that tonneau repaired on the Caterham?

Regards,

Tony

Hi Tony
Nice looking Plus 2 and would seem to be well sorted ( unlike mine!).
The tonneau cover you sent me was to provide material for a new rear vertical centre section on the boot cover which is at the cobbler at the moment. Much much cheaper than a new one from SoftBits for Sevens, and without the hassle of fitting a new one.
Enjoy your Plus 2!

Thanks Malcolm,
looks as though you are now keeping busy with both the Caterham & Elan
My Plus 2 was going well, but just had a rear strut failure! So will be busy replacing the strut & possibly the caliper.

Regards Tony

How did you get on with the rear strut?
