Anyone here from Glasgow? Or have a possible connection?

My son is to head to business school at University of Glasgow for a Master degree next month, and is learning that the University is not going to be able to honor its guarantee of housing for international students. It seems other housing options are few and far between and going faster than he can fins from here in the US.

Does anyone here have any good connections in Glasgow that might be a resource for finding housing?

Over 350 properties, use the filters to sort his preferences.

Will he be learning the language?

Would it be possible for him to travel a bit earlier and stay in a travelodge until he can find something suitable! He central Glasgow one is about £40 a night.

Thanks! We're thinking along similar lines, that getting there early to search on the ground may be best - but still awaiting return of all his paperwork from the Scottish consulate.

As he and we have researched more, it seems they had a similar but maybe smaller issue last year - and that Strathclyde and Edinborough are in similar boats. Is there a flood of folks going back for postgraduate degrees in the UK?

The crazy thing is the University is doing essentially nothing to assist - they simply sent out a note to all accepted (international, at least) students to say they'd run out of housing, couldn't honor their guarantee, and not to come to Scotland or finalize enrollment without housing. Class starts in 4 weeks.

Will he be learning the language?

Ah, public bodies. If this was a commercial business heads would roll. But they’re a university, doesn’t matter if they lose lots of income from students going elsewhere. Perhaps they ought to attend their own business school.

The world of wee Jimmy Krankie, has to be her fault somewhere along the line!

I'd contact a few local estate agents (Realtors), there are often ones who specialize in student let's. They might have some rooms to rent or know of a group of people doing a house share which need an extra person.

You could also contact the student union, they might be able to point you to sone resources for finding a room or at least the main place rooms are advertised.
