very sure, you like I understand some of the golden rules.
I do doubt the rules apply to everyone, and some have time to voice negativity (lengthy or not).

we must take others birth marks with a grain of salt.

I grew up beside a (public) golf course, the rule was, hit 4 balls and only carry 3 clubs (#2 also works as a putter, #9, and #2-driver.) of course we had to wait for people to pass sometimes. the beauty was, early or late in the day. hop the fence, and have some fun. we had memberships, but didn't respect the sign up all the time.
so if you take golf as fitness, chasing balls is in fact excellent exercise (jogging after 4 balls not just 1). like everything in life, its what you put into it.

I will add that now, I use my clubs for live target practice. Many squirrels in the area, though I have probably never hit one. they get the idea-(those are my nuts)

Maybe mine’s a delayed reaction due to low use during COVID lockdown. MK7 GT 2.0 diesel 2014 model. 7 years totally trouble free motoring and it does more miles per gallon than the ones you get in the US

I should explain that a US gallon is smaller than a UK gallon along with a few other weights and measures, it’s a point that seemed to escape a few people who complained in the US a few years back.

I’m waiting for Elon to produce an electric car that does 500 miles on a charge and has a Frunk big enough for my clubs before I trade up. Back in 2016 he said it was coming before 2020 and would drive itself, I was all teed up for it happening.

Looks like they can.

I rarely play golf. I find the weapons completely ineffective.

Interestingly we have an informal "Petrolheads" group in my area that meets once a week out at a local golf club !
Mainly because they have heaps of room for us all to park up, and a good cafe attached.

The cafe seating area is surrounded by all the beautifully sign written boards listing all the Champions over the years.
Still get a kick out of looking up and seeing my Dad's name as "Club Champion"....
Didn't make me a player though.
Caddying for him put me right off, though, as a kid, I did learn some new words..

I'm not a member of a club and don't buy into all that - I just like to play at a few different clubs to keep it interesting.

By the way, there's a few famous petrol head / golfers :

But then again being a driver is different than restoring / maintaining cars; the issue here is both take a lot of time & therefore tend to be mutually exclusive if you have a family.

Ah yes, thanks pharriso, forgot him for some reason even though he drove a Lotus, and on that note it is also worth throwing Graham Hill into the mix!
