I think I'm getting old.
Although that is a staggering piece of engineering and would like to have a go, a part of me thinks that it is wholly irresponsible to put on the public road. Other drivers and pedestrians are not calibrated to anticipate the potential closing speeds of a vehicle they had only just a moment ago seen as stationary.

I wonder whether it's possible and true. Can the tyres handle this amount of torque without losing traction? Is ot a case of 'we did it with special tyres' and did they need a burn out first?

It would appear that the extra push is not transmitted through the tyres but with some gas thrusters, similar in effect to a rocket but cold.
Perhaps if you were stood behind it at the time it would blow your umbrella inside out.
Very strange and I don`t want one.

That's 2.5G.
The gas speed and volume to achieve that would hardly conform to Health and Safety requirements.

I bet the road legal “roadster” (coupe) has no thrusters.

It does sound like a load of old nonsense. Musk is quoted as saying:

“We’re gonna use ultra-high pressure compressed air. It’s a cold gas thruster. The main thruster will be behind the license plate. So, for acceleration, it drops the license plate, and behind the license plate is a rocket thruster. It’s like full-on James Bond.”

Having had some experience of gas thrusters, the noise produced is extraordinary, so apart from the risk of shooting the guy behind with whatever is laying around on the road surface, it will probably deafen him as well.

Elon is a master of managing the media. Telsa spends nothing on advertising, recently fired the entire PR department, yet get more column inches than all of their competitors. Much of this is due to Elon and his outlandish claims. He is no fool, and the statements are clearly all part of a (very successful) strategy. It will be interesting to see what is actually fitted when the roadster2 finally gets delivered.
