Sorry guys (or perhaps some of you are glad) after reaching so called "covetted fifth gear status" I no longer wish to contribute to this forum. I may drop by to read from time to time but will refrain from making any further posts. If in future you should still wish to seek by opinion on any technical matters you are welcome if you wish to send me a PM as I won't bother with public responses or postings. I believe I'm suitably qualified to offer advice on the Ford Kent family of engines, gearboxes and rear axles used in Elans but less so when it comes to Elan only specifics because I don't actually own one. I rebuilt the gearbox in my father's 105E Anglia at age 14 and have being playing around with this family of English Ford vehicles ever since (and I'm now in my mid 50's). I've played around with and owned many other makes and models of cars of course but the vehicles that have a Ford Anglia 105E in their ancestry (and there's many of them - Elan included) are my firm favourites. I'm a university educated mechanical engineer who is currently working as such in the automotive industry (20+ years) for a well known global vehicle manufacturer so I do offer opinions with at least some level of experience and qualification.
Yes guys I really am sick of some of the closed minds, politics and knob polishing that seems to happen on this forum so it's bye from me.

Im a little disappointed. I'm new to the forum and a long time mechanic on British cars (63 years old started at 15) I've been enjoying posting on subjects where I feel I can help and hope I have not offended you. I have a long history of driving not so good condition British cars and getting as much or more fun out of them than those who have pristine examples. I am approaching having my elan on the road. Been working on it between customer projects for about 5 years now. Best Wishes one way or the other.

Hey,
So sorry that you feel this way, personally I find your postings very enlightening and useful. I also know of others who have stopped posting for the same issues.

With all due respect to 2cams70, whose posts I have found very interesting and useful, and any others who have left this forum, I have always found the tone and level of discussion on this forum to be of high standard and good-natured.

I think I must be thick skinned or have missed some threads. I have also found the site refreshingly free of unpleasantness that is so common on other websites. Yes, people have strong views, most of us do, but I found the general tone of discussions to be very good natured and the people I have met through this forum have ALL been extremely friendly and helpful. Long may it last.
As a source of knowledge, of course, the forum is unrivalled although searching for it can be challenging.....

Sorry to see you go 2Cams70. And like a few of the recent posts, I've felt its been a very respectful forum, and have appreciated your input.
Being an Aussie and owner of Lotus and a good few other makes, I hope our paths pass in the future, I'm always up for a chat with people interested our old classics.
Cheers

Can’t say I’ve seen or noticed what you have found problematic for you. That said I don’t come on here much as my project has been stalled for so long lol.
Compared to most other lotus based forums on internet or Facebook this place is very good. I’d avoid everything else out there if you’ve found it bad on here.

Well if your good bye is not knob polishing I don't know what is!! Perhaps if one feels like that one should go quietly and with some dignity remaining.................
Good bye.

There will always be a contest of ideas and on this site that contest is almost always conducted with civility and respect. Occasionally misunderstandings lead to conflict and confusion but that is rare. I have spent most of my life debating issues with some of the best engineers in the world in their disciplines, taking offense if you disagree gets you nowhere and you need to just dig deeper to try to understand the reason for the difference in opinion, that way we all learn.

I'm a member of several Forum's, either from ownerships of various Marques, or what I own at any one time, and have to say, compared with most of the others, I find this Forum the least antagonistic of any of the others I'm active, or were active with.
Try one or two of the Porsche Clubs...........
You'll always get minor disagreements, but that's life. If a few people disagree with your comments, take it on the chin and move on.
Doesn't matter who you are, how qualified, & what you've done in the past, it won't be right for everyone except you, there's no point in taking your ball home when someone disagrees, and announcing it as a topic, that alone says a lot.
Sorry to see you're doing just that.

Not been here long myself, but I have found it to be a very civil place!
It's a shame 2cams doesn't see it that way, especially as he has contributed so much.
