Tariffs!
In fairness he, the dad, is a rabid European unlike the thing his wife squirted out that metamorphosed into their excuse for a son, so I have no problem with this.
In fact I have no problem with anyone with a true conviction - I have a huge problem with the slime who voted out and now realise their mistake through their sheer stupidity. The likes of Ratcliffe who suddenly moved his new car factory to France, the likes of Dyson, the car workers who now cannot get mortgages and the myriad like this chap:

Hi All, and a Happy New Year to you.
Please can you turn down the language. I am that `slime` who voted with the majority to correct the balance of power controlling our country.
I find your language offensive. This is not the place for insults. Please keep them for in the bar.
It has finally been achieved after a long struggle with bureaucracy to disentangle us from Europe. I am looking forward to the future to see how the businessmen sort out the details once we get past the politicians.
I will read and listen to rational argument at any time although I will not join in.
For me this forum is about cars.

Read mine again carefully - are you saying you voted out and still convinced it is the best way? Then I have no gripe with you and wish you well, but I am afraid the businessmen you seek as your saviours are already beginning to act...
Like you, I hope it works out - only so that the GBP can get back to where it was when normality prevailed.
In fairness, I did start this thread with cars in mind - in that we in Europe were close to paying tariffs on parts from the UK, though that has been thankfully averted. I only hope now that the customs side does not rear its head in some way, as I cannot see the likes of Paul Matty spending time satisfying customs requirements and not passing the cost onto us...

Hi Eric,
Happy New Year for you and your family.
It's always a delicate subject and depending on what side of the Channel/Manche you are there are different opinions.
2021 will be a very testing Year for everyone and i hope a good Year no matter where you live.
It's true this is a Lotus Forum for sure but this little sub division is for a little free speech and exchange of ideas. BUT we need to respect others for sure.
Cheers

The trouble is, this type of language is always likely to be interpreted as inflammatory and insulting, no matter what excuses you try to make afterwards, especially when delivered via a keyboard rather than face to face.
I think it is far better and more constructive to try and argue against someone’s opinion (in this case policies) rather than to be personally abusive because of their opinion (or policies).

OK apologies if my thoughts on one type of person upsets the norm
But please do not think I am making excuses afterwards! Anyone who did vote leave and have now changed their mind, feel free to call me on 0033627161six two four, when I can tell you exactly what I think of you reducing my standard of living by 5% the past four years...

HCA (Sorry, I don’t know your name), it’s not a good idea to share your personal number on a public Internet forum. I hope you are not offended if I suggest that you should spell a couple of the digits.
With best intentions!

Speaking as a Yank with no dog in the fight but an interest in keeping up with things around the world, an outsider looking in, I read this as saying that you're more OK with those who remain committed to an idea you disagree with than with those who've seen their error and wish to make amends. In other words, screw redemption and up the division. Am I correct?
And given the amount of division and tribalism happening in my own country, the comparison/contrast is interesting.

Interesting observation Veg! One worthy of debate!
The key words here are 'make amends' Veg. If it were possible to change the situation accordingly, then yes. But brexit has happened, there is no way back. The people who regret the way they helped the outcome became cannot undo anything. Businesses have left the UK, the finance industry - once the bastion of the UK has been decimated. GDP is down and forecast to stay down. The UK has lost a labour stream that is vital to continuity of what they had. Yes, one day, it might all come back, but it will be hard work requiring much dedication.
So yes, in this case, I admire those who are still true to their conviction. If we could have time over tomorrow, I might not!
I would relish dicussing the comparisons between the UK and US, but unfortunately, I know little of what the grass root thoughts are on your side! If you are ever here, let us have a long lunch and talk! I'd love to know the reality of what went on with you guys the past four years.
Elanfan, remoaners accept the situation the UK is in. I am a remoaner - I cannot change anything and so best to get on with what building blocks are there and do the best to create something. There are not many prominent remoaners saying they wish they had voted differently to see the UK depleted of industry and watching crops rotting in the fields as the labour force has been sent away.
