RIP Oliver Winterbottom

PostPost by: richardcox_lotus » Mon Nov 09, 2020 2:45 pm

Hi all, not sure if anyone has heard but Oliver Winterbottom has passed away.

A key player in Lotus’ history, even though the Elan was well in flight by the time he arrived.

Regards
Richard

From Michael Kimberly through John Mountain on the "Lotus Remembered Facebook Page,

"Little did I think that by introducing Ollie to Colin Chapman for a job interview in October 1970 that our paths, families, careers and lives would be so intertwined and so full of challenge, achievement, fun and heartache.
Always a totally dedicated and committed 'larger than life' Lotus character, he never stopped championing Colin Chapman and his 'efficiency in all things' DNA, together with promoting Lotus cars and its innovative engineering achievements.
RIP my very good and true friend of 50 years from our first working together on a small Jaguar project after finishing our apprenticeships."
There is no cure for Lotus, only treatment.

Richard

Thank you for that information. Oliver was indeed an interesting character and his book is a good read as it gives a good view of the car industry. RIP Oliver.

Oliver Winterbottom's funeral will be held on Thursday 3rd December at midday at Wymondham Abbey, Norfolk. Obviously, in these times, numbers at the funeral are strictly limited, but Oliver's daughter is trying to organise a procession of Lotus cars to accompany him on his last journey to the abbey. The procession will leave Kett's Park, Wymondham, at 11.30am. If you need further details, please PM me.

Obituary in the Telegraph today. Behind paywall, but at least he’s been recognised.

Which makes the link slightly frustrating.....
If you go here, and try their log-on, as I did, you should get the whole article.
