I've been replacing the felt on my shed roof today; must have knocked in several hundred nails, every single one a direct hit; then I went to do a job on the S4 which required a single hammer blow on a punch to knock a pin out.
I missed....... and hit my thumb a mighty blow, damn it hurt and is still red and throbbing several hours later.
Lotus humour! Chill guys. :D

As there is virtually no traffic on the roads around here in these strange times, my mission tomorrow is to drive into Manchester (a big city) along roads which were in place when the Elan was designed and to photograph things which were there when I used my first one as an everyday driver (1975) to get to work along many streets which have now been "pedestrianised". There is a chance I'll be "talked to" by people wearing uniforms, and who are ill-informed about the current restrictions, if this happens I'll endeavour to avoid incarceration. If I manage to get a decent set of photos I'll post a link. My rear number-plate might be accidentally obscured; the front one, thanks to Ron Hickman, is well hidden from surveillance cameras.

Now; how's that for thread drift?

Sounds like a good plan. A productive use of an unfortunate situation.

Mission accomplished. I suppose that will be the last drive, in anything, for quite a while.

Take care of yourselves folks.

Sure? We're not on a curfew, and are you not observing social distancing while driving your car? I'd argue you are.

Best picture IMHO is the one of the abandoned terrace in the sunshine. Very "Coronation Street".

Fuel pump handles are apparently spreading the virus. Handle with gloves & discard them in an environmentally safe manner.

I filled up today. There were 4 pumps per stand and 10 stands. But, there was only one card machine. I asked the attendant, who was busy rubbing down the counter, what he was using on his cloth and could he put some of it on the card machine before I touched it?
He said his cloth was dry...…..we're doomed.

Well that’s it! No one allowed out unless to go to essential shopping, all non food shops closing, not allowed to gather in more than 2 people unless your own close family. Essentially hospital appts OK. Etc. Police will now be enforcing.

It’s really shattered should have happened weeks ago.

It should have happened 2 weeks ago although I suppose the "drip-drip" approach has made at least some of our population aware of the situation.

But this weekend, or at least Sunday, was crazy. If folks won't listen then this was inevitable, Bojo's hand was forced and for once all political parties appear to have stopped scoring points and agreed on the course of action.

What did you think of Boris's speech? I mean, the way it was delivered? People say he wants to be like Churchill - did he manage it? I think not.

As regards the Police enforcing it, well there aren't enough of them to do this. Don't forget they also have to prevent crime. It's suggested they will use persuasion before punishment (did you see the BBC news report right after the announcement?)

I only saw highlights on the news, yes there was an attempt at Churchillian delivery but I've seen him do that one before. Didn't think anything of it, but as I say I didn't watch the whole thing.

I've no idea how it will or can be enforced. I suspect that mostly traffic cops will be doing a few "hello, hello, where are you going" stops, especially if it's a couple of youngsters in a slammed lukewarm hatchback. I didn't see this as stopping people from going to work, just socialising afterwards, so it's traffic and gatherings in town centres.

I'd imagine it would mostly be a warning and only for traffic/travel they see outside the normal working day. If you're on the road between 7:00am-6:00pm you'll have no bother but pottering along in your car on an empty road at 8:30pm then they'll give you a tug, that sort of thing. No idea how they'll implement fines though.

I say, thank God we have someone like Boris at the helm. Can you just imagine the mess we would be in if the Communist bearded wonder was in no. 10. Boris makes no secret of the fact that he has a lifelong interest in the life and times of Churchill, but he will never compare oratorally to him, who could.

Waitrose have so few customers that they've been practising social distancing by default.

In those days we called it "the Waitrose shopping experience".
