Hi John,

No kissing on the cheeks anymore,nor handshakes.

The situation is rather grim here, many deaths (mainly old people already ill and especially in hospices)
The Virus attacks the respiratory system and to allow you to breathe they have to intubate you otherwise you can't breathe and basically die of asphyxia.
The people that have been infected and have no hope of recovery are no longer able to see their families and once they die are taken immediately to the crematorium. You will not see them again.
Hospital beds are not enough and the government are already preparing makeshift hospitals out of exhibition centres, tents etc..

Wear masks, gloves when out and in areas where many have touched surfaces. Wash your hands frequently and dont touch your face our moiuth unless you have first disinfected yourselves.
These are some basic but important rules.

I've seen comments like "it's a load of bollocks" but if you do get infected , it's your bollocks on the line

During all of this can we try to not forget the mental health of people. Isolation is terrible thing. It’s a lot different to hiding yourself away for a few days, somehow when it is enforced isolation it’s much different. We are a social species and need interaction with our fellow man for our wellbeing. So spare a thought for those who are or will be in this position. Pick up the phone, use FaceTime Skype or whatever to keep in touch to keep spirits up.

I haven’t a clue how to do it but I’m told FaceTime supports group chats. As has been suggested to me you can have a virtual pub night (or whatever floats your boat).

Did you see that report on the BBC about all those US yoofs descending on Florida for Spring Break (despite the current advice for social distancing)? They had all these douchebags on camera going "If I get Corona, I get Corona. At the end of the day I'm not going to let it stop me from partying."
Or "There's more important things to deal with in the world like hunger and poverty. We need to address that."

Sorry, I know it's off topic but I needed a mini rant after seeing it. I sound like one of those - what are they, "gammons"? As in, "What do they teach you kids today?" and "Youth of today, I dunno.." etc. Ha ha..

I can't understand the people that still insist on going out and not stay at home. OK they feel good BUT THEY COULD BE A CARRIER and infect others, what selfish people they are.
In France here they have banned people to go to the beaches because there were still DxxxHEADS walking about like there is no problem.
On the bright side "Little lo"is very happy with all servicing update and a nice shiny Body

to some degree you can understand the attitude as the effect on younger people of Corona virus appears to be much lower than on the more elderly. But they still spread it so need to observe the controls to prevent spread even if their own infection is not really a problem. i doubt the education system has much to do with the attitudes more the age

So true.. I suppose it is a problem with their attitude and selfishness. Is it not true that there's a huge elderly population in Florida?

Yes and no doubt the press have done their utmost in order to beat up and exaggerate something that's probably only representative of a small proportion of the young population in order to sell a story and get advertising revenue.

Remember the youth of today are the potential Lotus buyers of the future. Unfortunately the future of the entire classic car movement doesn't look to bright on that front. The young generally aren't interested.

There is something to be said for the severity of this viris. I do believe it is in the range of 100,000x more deadly than the common flu. Our friends are not allowed on Haida Gwaii anymore, as the Natives do not want the viris affecting the animals.

That, just in case anyone was thinking of quoting it elsewhere, is just not true. It's a nasty bug no doubt but its lethality is nowhere near 100,000x that of flu.

Flu kills around 0.1% of those who catch it (US data)
Coronavirus seems to be around 2-3% (Chinese data) overall but with a considerable bias towards the elderly / those with other health issues:

"The death rate (is around)14.8% in those 80 and older
70 to 79, the death rate seems to be about 8%;
it’s 3.6% for those ages 60 to 69;
1.3% for 50 to 59;
0.4% for the age group 40 to 49;
0.2% for people ages 10 to 39.
No deaths in children under 9 have been reported. "

Re animals catching it, viruses of this type tend to be species specific until a genetic mutation means they can jump from one species to another - that how it came to us in the first place. The human version is very unlikely (I don't have specific data) to be able to infect cattle or dogs for example.

Not to mention of the covering-up of the biological warfare site just two miles north of Wuhan !!!

I bought my own dental practice in October (I'm a dentist, for my sins) we are on the 1st floor in the centre of the city in Dundee and we have strict regulations from our NHS, we must stay open for emergencies, we have already run very low on all our basic PPE because it is all made in China and the suppliers have been disrupted (I'm rambling now)

Anyhow we are opposite a large chain restaurant and it has been busy every lunch and evening all week with families and groups of friends all meeting up with this new found time off work!

Friday took the biscuit however, with the schools closing a hoard of teachers all turned up to get pissed and have a final "blow out" before all the pubs and restaurants get shut!

Dundee and greater Tayside has plenty of Covid-19 cases - these people just don't get it unfortunately!
I don't know if I am angry or sad.

Terrible time to start your own business! Hopefully if I furlough my staff the Gov't promised grants will help we will see how that turns out. (We would normally see 300+ patients a week and we are now down to ~25)

Running a skeleton staff in 2 separate "pods" working alternate days to try and keep the place running, with the pods having no physical contact.

My sister is an equine specialist vet and the NHS has claimed all of her and most of the countries vets surgical equipment, oxygen and hibi-(surigcal soap).
I have been told if we shut the practice my Dentists and Nurses will deployed elsewhere in the NHS.
I will treat dental emergencies covid-19 +ve patients if the practice is shut, at our local dental referral unit, which has built a "hot zone" tent in the car park for this (the main building has been turned from a dental unit to a mini-hospital).

It really does feel from the daily updates within the NHS we are preparing for war.

Once in a life time we can all help by staying in our house and doing nowt!

Im a field service engineer, which is a fancy title for a traveling repairman. I work for a manufacturer of analytical instruments used in quality-control labs in plastics & polymers plants. Most of my customers have asked to postpone scheduled services. For the coming week I had three of them scheduled and it's down to one now, and they could postpone too at any moment. I have one customer that as of now wants me onsite ASAP when some parts come in.

But things seem to change daily here in USA, not for the better. The masses of course have panicked and are descending like hoardes of zombies to buy-up large quantities of toilet-roll, to the point that in online communities there are posts of where some can be found or not. They're also panic-buying hand sanitiser and masks, even though most people don't need the latter.

Mrs. Veg decided a week ago at the first mentions of isolation that she wanted to do it for a few weeks and would appreciate my solidarity on that. With no work to go do since Monday, that has been easy. We're generally well-supplied with most of what we need, but I'd like to go stock-upnon some food items since this probably won't be over in two weeks. Sometimes she sounds OK with that; other times she's in a near-panic with thoughts that we and everyone we know might already have it but not know it yet. It doesn't help that a friend of ours probably has it but was refused a test, even though she was already admitted to a hospital a mere FOUR BLOCKS from the CDC! And yes, I'm of the firm opinion that our national leadership has REALLY bollocksed this thing.

But I'm the positive influence in our house, and will remain so as long as I can draw a breath.

Our daughter was out in a club with her friend on 15/3/20. Yesterday that friend lost her 90 year old grandmother to Covid19. The friends mother has it too and has apparently struggled to breathe. She is home with her daughter. I don’t think there are any underlying health conditions in the mother but her daughter has had a lung problem. I’d guess grief can affect the immune system??

The grandmother was apparently taken away and will be cremated and they won’t be allowed to go to that. The mother and daughter live less than a mile from us. Think this has finally brought it home to my youngest daughter who is finally taking things seriously and who is now staying away from us.


The numpties out partying for Spring Break will likely start losing loved ones maybe then they’ll take it seriously.
