Original ‘empire preference’ version was sunk by 30’s US opposition + WW2.

Good luck trying to reanimate it now.

I had maple syrup on my porridge this morning and a nice little Aussie Shiraz with my dinner this evening. I'm doing my bit!

“The UK is by far Canada's most important commercial partner in Europe and, from a global perspective, ranks third after the United States and China. In 2010 total bilateral trade reached over C$27.1 billion, and over the last five years the UK has been Canada's second- largest goods export market. The UK is an important source of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Canada, ranking third after the United States and the Netherlands, and Canadian companies invest heavily in the UK. In 2010, the two-way stock of investment stood at almost CDN$115 billion.[1]“ from Wikipedia

“Canada exported 46.2bn Canadian dollars (£26.7bn) of goods and services to the EU in 2017, which was 7.9% of its exports.
It imported 63.6bn Canadian dollars of goods and services to the EU, which was 10.5% of its imports.” From BBC

“But British officials don’t have experience or capacity to effectively negotiate multiple new trade agreements and will already have their hands full negotiating with the EU. This is where Canada comes in” the conversation

Not sure what your Parliment or Our Queen thinks of whatever will happen now post Brexit. But, we have a different relationship than the states does with each. And as not many Canadians want to be associated with much to do with the good old US of A. Nor China. I sort of suspect keeping our wealth together, and boarders more tightly controlled. Obviously there will always be a UK-EU and Cdn-USA.

I strongly believe, the more the UK has to do with Canada. The better for us all.
