Tis the season for reruns of the 1951 movie Cristmas Carol. Love it. Alastair Sim is great. I always get confused with the money denominations. Crown, half a crown, tuppence, penny, farthing, pound and a few I have forgotten. What fun! Bob

Very wrong - we have pounds and pence, none of this euro nonsence!!!

The old money - think of it as like measuring anything on the Elan, all sixteenths of this and 5/8 of that. I blame the Saxons

Not as whacko as you might think, shillings and pence are part of a duo-decimal system of counting to the base 12. Fits in with 60 minutes in an hour for pay rates etc.
School kids today miss-out on not learning different base systems if they still had to use weights measures of pounds and ounces, base 16, or pints in a gallon, base 8, then binary base 2 would be a walk in the park.

The BBC broadcast before xmas the most amazing adaptation of A Christmas Carol in three parts so three hours long. I haven't seen better. Thanks Auntie. Jim

it was horrible! a "new" adaptation of the classic with all of the world's darkest evil side....from child molestation, pedophile suggestiveness of Scrooge's youth, to having Mrs. Cratchet expect to perform sexual favors for monetary compensation, making a whore out of her??? The ending was short and focused upon Scrooge at the Cratchet homestead making good, but not seeking forgiveness....instead sweeping it all under the carpet as being "in the past" and promising a better "future"

it was disgusting, depressing and very dark..... I thought it a disgrace and a warped sense of all the world's woes wrapping itself around what should be a joyful theme.....

I'd much prefer the 1951 version any day in a sweet innocent and cheerful way!

So Jim, Were the 3 hours needed for a Christmas Carol metric hours or imperial hours? It only becomes a issue when adding miles per hour to the old yards per fortnight and meters per second.

I have a 2005 coinone side Elizabeth II DG REG FD other side a picture of a bridge and "one pound". Recieved it with change. I am in U.S.. Could I get a pint of beer. Prefer cold if that is available.

"meters per second." I think that would be a measure only useable when walking in a large control room such as a power generating plant.

It's French word so it should be spelled the French way: "metres per second."
