Jim Clark Anniversary
Posted: Sat Apr 07, 2018 2:19 pmFifty Years ago today we lost one of the finest drivers in the history of Motorsport, Jim Clark. He was respected by every era of GP including Ayrton Senna.
In 1993, Senna visited the Jim Clark Museum at Duns. He spent several hours there, and signed the guest book. Senna subsequently commissioned a painting, which was to contain all the great driver's that he would liked to have had on his fantasy grid. He gave the artist carte blanche to position the various driver's anywhere on the grid, with one exception- Jim Clark. Senna stipulated that Jim must be depicted on pole position, stating, "Jim was the greatest of all."
When Ann and I and our British friends visited the gravesite last summer, we were struck by the commemorative stone that said ?Farmer? many lines above ?World Champion? on the stone. He was always gracious and humble in victory or defeat unlike so many of today?s athletes.
